Power Rangers Lightning Collection Zeo Yellow Ranger review
I’m blaming Ross and Ollie’s with their ridiculous sales for still keeping me into the Lighting Collection after I completed the Mighty Morphin crew. And yet, I happily scooped up Zeo Yellow Ranger to build out my all-star squad of Rangers through the eras.
Like most of the Power Rangers, I dig the designs of the teams even if I never felt particularly drawn to them. And the Zeo designs have been some of the cooler ones.
Let’s see how Tanya Sloan’s Lightning Collection debut fares or if this Zeo figure is just a zero.
Packaging: Hasbro stays consistent with the usual packaging. It shows off the figure and accessories with no trouble and the front/side portrait of the character is a nice showcase. And it’s always cool that the LC line color coordinates the accents based on the respective Ranger.
I just wish they put some effort into the back of the packaging with a bio and some stats or a weapons breakdown.
Likeness: Zeo Yellow Ranger stayed fairly consistent with the designs of the rest of the crew. She’s got a unique helmet head sculpt with an “equal sign” and a very intricate collar piece, glove and boot tops.
The work on these more ornamental elements of the costume is really well done.
Most of the body is reused from other female Ranger figures in the line, most likely the Yellow Rangers since no new plastic is even necessary.
Scale: Tanya should be just a little shorter than her male Zeo counterparts. Her figure matches up pretty well scale wise.
Paint: I love the bright bold shade of yellow Hasbro used. Impressively, the gold still manages to stand out even against a similar shade. It helps that it makes for a gradient with the white portions of her costume.
The chest ornament area should have some black/darker bronze in the base portion to help the gold pop further. That seems like it’s probably a big ask for a $25 mass market figure. For those seeking a higher-level paint job, ThreeZero has a sharp looking figure.
Still, there’s no slop and the linework is very clean with the helmet’s yellow, black and silver in such close proximity.
Articulation: Sigh. It’s frustrating seeing some legacy issues from other lines like Marvel Legends, carry on to other lines. Previous female figures haven’t had bicep articulation, which tends to limit some of the fun in posing.
Tanya can hit a good amount of poses, but that missing bicep joint is a real hinderance.
Zeo Yellow Ranger has:
- neck
- shoulders
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- waist
- hip
- knee (double-jointed)
- ankle
Accessories: Zeo Yellow Ranger has an impressive amount of accessories.
She’s got the twin nunchakus with some measure of detail around the handles. The connection links should be chains not yellow rope.
Her laser pistol is a very good facsimile of the source material. It has just about all the deco minus the gold strip along the side and black square.
It’s about 85% accurate, which is decent if you’re not a hardcore Zeo fan. There’s also a translucent yellow laser blast effect that plugs into the pistol.
Additionally, she’s got a Power Pod Sword. The detailing on the hilt is terrific for this scale.
She’s also got a swappable set of semi-chop hands. Nice to have alternate options for fight sequences.
Finally, Zeo Yellow Ranger has the Tanya Sloan head sculpt. The likeness to actress Nakia Burrise is pretty solid.
Worth it? I got Zeo Yellow Ranger for $8 at Ollie’s. That’s just a hard price to argue with especially given how good the figure turned out. You can find her still for a relatively decent deal for under $18.
Rating: 9 out of 10
Give Tanya some bicep swivels and she’d be perfect. Even without that essential joint this is a very good figure with great sculpting and all the useful accessories.
Where to get it? Ollie’s in the best route to get Tanya for a great price. Failing that you can still grab her from Entertainment Earth or Amazon.
