Masters of the Universe New Eternia Ram Man review
I’m loving these Masters of the Universe New Eternia figures. Ram Man is the latest to get this mix of old school and fresh, newer designs. Ram Man has always been a favorite and he’s one of those characters that seems to always get great figures. I’ve been waiting on this one so I was excited to add him to my collection. Especially since Target put on clearance way faster than I anticipated.
Let’s see if the New Eternia figure keeps Ram Man’s hot streak rolling or if this release makes me want to hit my head against a wall.
Packaging: The New Eternia packaging color scheme is consistent with the Revelation line with just a change in the logo to reflect we’re in the New Eternia era now.
This is one of my favorite package setups of any line. Over on the left side, a tremendous drawing showcases Ram Man in his base look with the alternate display options in the background.
And on the back, we get another awesome and creatively crafted bio.
Likeness: The best part about the New Eternia setup is Mattel starts off with the classic look so MOTU purists can enjoy that look with the refined sculpted and articulation.
Ram Man had an awesome original design that’s really hard to enhance. The figure is nice and brawny with the massive shoulder pads. They’ve got a good amount of battle damage with scrapes and dents.
His head sculpt is superb with a stern expression and the classic soda cap style helmet. Ram Man’s tunic has a well-crafted laced up front with excellent texturing.
His belt has the signature skull with the skirt flaps having more detail hanging at different lengths. As usual, he’s got the springy tube-like designs for his legs and intricately detailed boots.
Paint: Mattel continues to provide exemplary clean paintjobs for the figures. There’s not much by way of washes — that’s never been the case with the Masterverse line — but I haven’t had to worry about botched or bad paintjobs with these figures.
As usual, it’s more of a trying really hard to find something wrong as opposed to appreciating a line where paint flaws are rare.
Scale: The New Eternia figures maintain the 7″ scale. Ram Man about the same height as the other Masters, just a little wider. Ideally, he’d be a little shorter, but it’s not a big problem.
Articulation: Ram Man has 30 points of articulation and as the Masters’ battering ram, he’s fun to do in charging, battering poses.
I think he has the standard knees but encasing them in the leg tubing makes that largely useless. Thankfully, Rammy has a good center of balance so he can support most poses without toppling over.
Masterverse New Eternia Ram Man has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- waist
- hip
- thigh
- ankle
Accessories: For deluxe figures, Mattel tries to justify the additional cost. Ram Man has the expected gear and some additional accessories that essentially give him a totally different look.
Let’s start traditional. He’s got a set of gripping hands.
That makes it all the easier for him to hold his other trademark weapon besides his battering ram head — his axe.
The blade has some nicks and scratches in it to show Rammy does not care about proper blade maintenance. Mattel added some grooves at the base of the handle to allow for a stronger grip.
New accessories are a totally newly designed helmet. This one has a dual circle in the forehead section.
A separate piece with rivets covering his mouth and more rivets and dents.
I dig this as an alternate look for when Ram Man is in a hazardous environment and needs a little more protection.
It’s got some neat extra details like a key sculpted in the back.
That’s not it. Ram Man gets another helmet. This one is a greater departure from the usual Ram Man portraits.
It’s cast in a darker grey with an orange outline and features Rammy sporting goggles. It’s also got some points at the top of the helmet for extra impact.
With that helmet, I like the inclusion of a new harness, which makes for a very unique look for Ram Man.
You can also plug the axe onto the backpack.
He’s not a character that typically gets variants and with the orange accents and sunburst goblin in the harness center, maybe this can be Eternia core burrowing Ram Man?
Worth it? The normal Masterverse deluxe figure price is $32.99, but during Target’s latest clearance cycle, I got him for $9.99. That’s a pretty hard value to beat unless Ross gets him a few months later for $5.99.
Rating: 9.7 out of 10
Ram Man is an exceptional figure with great display options. He’s a very well executed figure with a fun upgrade over earlier incarnations of the Masters’ heavy hitter.
Where to get it? I got Ram Man at Target, but you can grab him on Amazon.
