Green Lantern War Journal #7

Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Montos have put in solid work making War Journal one of, if not the definitive John Stewart story. After his last encounter with The Revenant Queen, John awakens on a strange world with his ring unable to tell him where he is in the universe. With few answers and plenty of questions, John finds Byla-Voq, an inhabitant who has grown resigned to the fact he won’t be able to escape his current predicament. But will John?

Meanwhile back on Earth, John’s construct of his sister is fighting to keep his mother happy as she continues dealing with dementia. It’s an ultimate child/adult fantasy of making sure one’s parents have happy memories in their final days. This is a touching and heartbreaking subplot.

Montos’ art continues to give this series a deeper level of storytelling and scope. From the character details to the wide expanse of this new ground, Montos truly makes John Stewart’s world look unique. Adriano Lucas provides a captivating color palette for both the intergalactic main story and the Stewart family.

This book continues to impressive with no letup in sight. Hopefully it’s getting a strong reaction from readers as this is the kind of fresh story DC needs more of in its titles.
