DC Comics reviews 3/19/24 – Nightwing #112, JSA #9, Superman #12

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. King Kong #6

The time for discussion is over. This installment is an epic throwdown with the Justice League battling the Legion of Doom, who are now in control of all the monster titans including King Kong…and Supergirl. Good thing the heroes have some reinforcements and upgrades of their own courtesy of Batman, Cyborg and the Green Lanterns.

Writer Brian Buccellato throws all the chips in for this issue with some major confrontations with some clever twists. This mini-series has already been a lot of fun, but Buccellato takes the character interaction and action to another few levels. Lex Luthor plays his trump card while Batman attempts one last desperation play.

Despite the battle of titans, Buccellato makes sure that the non-powered heroes like Green Arrow get signature moments as well. There’s just one minor issue that could be a major problem depending on how the rest of the series concludes.

Artists Christian Duce and Tom Derenick are more than up to the challenge of bringing all of these crazy scenarios to life. The result is some hard-hitting blockbuster scale action where the heroes get to showcase their powers in a no-holds barred situation. Luis Guerrero’s colors add a terrific visual pop with strong vibrant choices.

This was the strongest installment of the mini-series to date thanks to the emphasis on action and heroic measures taken in the sake of stopping the Legion of Doom and their monster allies.
