Inside Out 2 breaks animated global box office opening with $295M
Forgive Disney and Pixar if they get so emotional this weekend thanks to the record-breaking debut of Inside Out 2. The sequel to the very well-received 2015 original blew past box office predictions for a record $295 million global opening.
Domestically, the film was the second highest animated opening with $155 million trailing only Incredibles 2 at $182.6 million back in 2018. In terms of box office performances, Barbie had a better opening with $166 million in the post-pandemic era.
This was a big rebound for Pixar as Inside Out 2 stands poised to accomplish what no film has done since 2021. That’s crossing the $500 million global threshold.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die managed to avoid a big sophomore weekend slump. The fourth installment in the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence franchise opened to $56.5 million and had a moderate drop for $33 million. Its predecessor, Bad Boys for Life, was the last big box office hit before the pandemic kicked off in full swing in 2020. It grossed $206 million domestically. Ride or Die has tallied $112 million total domestically. With its $100 million budget, the film is looking like it will be a sold hit.

In third place was Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with $5.3 million to reach $158 million. That surpasses the total of War for the Planet of the Apes, which ended its domestic run with $146 million.
The Garfield Movie came in at fourth with $5 million to hit $78.7 million. In the previous two weekends, Garfield maintained an impressive retention grasp on its audience going from $14 million the weekend of June 2 to $10 million last weekend. That’s good enough for the Alcon-produced film to make a profit off its $60 million budget.
