Image Comics reviews 6/26/24 – Void Rivals #10, Rook: Exodus #3

Rook: Exodus #3

The Ghost Machine books released so far– Geiger, Redcoat and Rook: Exodus — have all been terrific reads. Rook: Exodus feels like the one with the most unlimited potential. Writer Geoff Johns and artist Jason Fabok tap into just a portion of it this issue. Rook and Dire Wolf meet up with the leader of Oasis sanctuary, Carapace.

Carapace’s turtle design is another winner from Fabok who is creating looks that would make for amazing action figures. The three wardens are bracing for the next salvo from Ursaw, who’s also recruiting other wardens to join his cause. Battlelines are being drawn so Johns and Fabok pull the curtain back to reveal more wardens.

The possibilities are so exciting. Rook isn’t as linked with his birds as some of the other wardens are with their animals. Dire Wolf lost her father in the early stages of this war and Ursaw is intent on wiping out any wardens that oppose him.

Fabok’s highly detailed art makes all of Rook’s world come to life on an amazing level. Along with Brad Anderson’s colors, this is already one of the best-looking titles on the comic stands. Rob Leigh’s lettering is also an important part of the presentation.

If this quality continues on through the second half of 2024, Rook: Exodus is definitely going to be in the conversation for best title of 2024.
