Image Comics reviews 6/26/24 – Void Rivals #10, Rook: Exodus #3

Void Rivals #10

This series continues to be such a wide open, anything goes experience. It doesn’t have the name brand and legacy as fellow Energon Universe titles G.I. Joe and Transformers, but Void Rivals is definitely not the third wheel.

Writer Robert Kirkman keeps putting poor Darak and Solila through the wringer. The encounter with Proximus left Solila at death’s door. Good thing Springer arrives to offer some help and someone who can match up with Proximus in a fight. Kirkman does more in having Springer put in effort to beat Proximus than going overboard and defeating one of the more popular Autobots in a one on one battle.

An old Marvel Cinematic Universe tagline was “It’s all Connected.” It feels like the Energon Universe shares that philosophy as Springer learns a significant twist about Darak and Solila that could change everything. It also seems like Kirkman likes the idea of this trio without pushing Darak and Solila to the backburner simply with the arrival of an A-list Autobot.

MORE:

The art from Lorenzo De Felici is outstanding. De Felici has crafted a strong visual style for Void Rivals where Transformers can co-exist with an alien race and it looks so smooth. There’s enough reason to infer there’s going to be some cross over with characters from Cobra Commander, which would give De Felici some other visually striking additions to work into the mix.

Colorist Patricio Delpeche works in such a good blend of colors that properly showcase focal points. Letterer Rus Wooton seems to have a blast with the different fonts for character dialogue and the various sound effects.

Void Rivals #10 has a strong cliffhanger that reinforces why this has been such a highly enjoyable read since its inception.
