Image Comics reviews 7/24/24 – Void Rivals #11, Rook: Exodus #4
No/One #10
No/One concludes with a thrilling series finale that clears up most of the mystery while seemingly not wrapping everything up neatly in a bow.
Aaron Kern, the presumed original No/One gathers all the major players together for a reckoning. One where Aaron looks to hold them all accountable with no chance for anything besides a quick death. Writers Kyle Higgins and Brian Buccellato do a fantastic job of building to this moment and further escalating the tension as Aaron has his big showdown with everyone including No/One.
The only player that will be spared from Aaron’s actions is Alanna Paige, who he called to witness the truth behind his actions. Artist Geraldo Borges delivers in a massive (pun not intended) way the heightened drama and panicked emotions as Aaron hands down his final judgement. No/One has rarely been a traditional action, vigilante comic with the intensity coming more from characters reacting in astonishment or shock as they witness a death or evade it themselves.
Colorist Mark Englert maintains a steady darker color scheme fitting for this showdown while letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou keeps the dialogue easy to follow.
The ending seemed intentionally open-ended. Higgins and Buccellato certainly leave the story of No/One wide open enough for another installment. There is a tease for another chapter, which hopefully will come to fruition as the ending definitely leaves open too many possibilities.
