Deadpool & Wolverine laugh off second week drop with $96.5M haul
Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t have any problems getting audiences to the theaters for a second weekend in a row. The latest Marvel Studios box office bonanza scored a massive $96.5 million in its second weekend. That takes its global haul up to a staggering $824 million already.
With this weekend’s haul, Deadpool & Wolverine topple The Passion of the Christ’s ($370 million) 20-year record as the highest grossing R-rated film domestically. No doubt Deadpool would appreciate the irony. By Monday the film is estimated to hit $400 million domestically alone in less than two full weeks.
Twisters has benefitted from strong word of mouth to still manage to make an impact in Deadpool & Wolverine’s wake. It earned $22.6 million in its third weekend. Twisters, at $196 million, is now poised to become the fifth film to hit the $200 million domestic mark in 2024. Inside Out 2 ($622 million), Despicable Me 4 ($306 million) and Dune: Part Two ($282 million) make up the rest of that top five. Not bad for a remake.

The two animated films continue to reside in the top 5 highest grossing films of the weekend. Despicable Me 4 came in at fourth with $11.2 million in its fifth weekend, while Inside Out 2 continues to play strong in its eighth weekend with $6.7 million.
M. Night Shyamalan’s latest, Trap, brought in a decent $15.6 million opening weekend haul. Thanks to its modest $30 million budget, Trap should recoup its expenses though it likely won’t have the staying power like Twisters.
