Image Comics reviews 8/21/24 – Destro #3, Redcoat #5
Destro #3
By far the most action-packed installment of the mini-series, Destro #3 raises the stakes by introducing a new player to the G.I. Joe/Cobra lore. And Chameleon
There were just a few bits of dialogue that felt like Watters was trying to be too cute in this serious war criminal drama. Too much of it comes from Chameleon who utters lines like “you’re making it weird” and “cool story.” For the initial moments in the Destro/Chameleon battle, she’s silent as Destro rattles on and on desperately trying to gain some advantage. In those sequences, the silent would-be assassin is immensely cool and seems like a fascinating alternative to the still absent Snake Eyes.
Andrea Milana’s artwork seemed crisper in Destro #3. Maybe Milana has been waiting to tackle this fun battle choreography? Milana’s perspectives had a very cinematic feel to them making the pages more dramatic and intense.

Colorist Adriano Lucas had a fantastic battleground to play in with snow against red and black outfits, but other locales also made for colorful backdrops. Rus Wooton’s lettering remains especially clean even in segments with a lot of dialogue.
Destro #3 has a heck of a cliffhanger with a very unexpected reveal that has the potential to shake up the Energon Universe Joe vs. Cobra dynamic. It’s an intriguing development for longtime Joe fans and one with plenty of possibilities.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
