Star Wars Black Series Morgan Elsbeth review
Morgan Elsbeth made an immediate impact in her debut in The Mandalorian era of Star Wars. She was the magistrate on Corvus when confronted by Ahsoka Tano and Mando. She had a much larger role on Ahsoka where she served as Grand Admiral Thrawn’s right-hand woman.
With some of the random Mandalorian characters getting figures made, it was surprising we didn’t get a Morgan figure until the Ahsoka wave.
Packaging: Morgan Elsbeth marks my first Ahsoka theme character. It’s still the very cool angled packaging. I’m giving up on trying to match the exact shades of colors. I think it’s a darker turquoise. The side features a great portrait of Morgan fully capturing her personality.
The usual great bio is disappointing as it’s just a general synopsis of Ahsoka instead of any personalization to the respective characters. She’s No. 4 in the Ahsoka series for those keeping track.
Likeness: I’m really impressed with the sculpt. The likeness of actress Diana Lee Inosanto is excellent.
I can’t really see how a Hot Toys version would be a huge improvement. I love how it conveys her confidence and authoritative presence. The hair sculpt is nicely detailed complete with the strands on either side of her head.
The Black Series team also did solid work on the layout of her outfit with the various wraps of her inner shirt and texture of her vest. They’re not haphazardly done but are broken up enough with various angles, so it just doesn’t look like she’s wearing a ribbed shirt with sleeves.
Morgan’s belt rests just a little higher than her hips allowing a portion of the vest to peek out underneath as it flows to her dress.
Another nice component of the figure is the pendant on the left portion of the belt. The BS team reused the legs from the Dark Side Rey figure, which is sensible reuse since they look fine and it’s certainly not like Morgan needed all new legs.

Paint: Morgan Elsbeth has a pretty simple color scheme that makes more sense when her origin is revealed. Her outfit is a mix of dark, brick red with some brighter red wraps thrown in to break it up.
One minor/major issue with the paint is the placement of her forehead tattoo. It should be just below her hairline so from a distance it could potentially look like a widow’s peak.
This isn’t a huge deal to me though it is surprising that the Black Series team missed it.
Scale: Morgan Elsbeth is hardly a towering giant. She’s listed as 5’4″ according to StarWars.com. That would have her significantly looking up at the 6’3″ Thrawn as she just reaches his shoulder.
She’d also be looking up at the adult Ahsoka Tano at 5’10”. She actually scales pretty well with the original Black Series Thrawn and Ahsoka figure. That’s some solid adherence to scale.
Articulation: Morgan’s dress being assembled in four parts solves the dreaded cone treatment. Since any of the skirt pieces can be flexed out for any kind of attack poses Morgan strikes it doesn’t severely hinder her movement though naturally a soft goods skirt like the Asaaj Ventress figure would be better.
The lack of butterfly shoulder articulation is disappointing. That’s incredibly useful for characters who engage in some form of swordplay.
At least she can rest her arms behind her back…
Morgan Elsbeth has:
- head
- neck (ball-jointed)
- shoulders
- elbow
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- waist
- hips (ball-jointed)
- knees
- ankles
Accessories: Morgan Elsbeth gets a goose egg for accessories, which is frustrating since she had options.
A second portrait with more of her Dathomir heritage showing would have made sense. And her staff also seems like an obvious inclusion that was left out. Or even the Blade of Talzin. Robes aren’t cheap apparently, but it’s pretty lame to offer a figure in this era with absolutely nothing.
Worth It? Morgan started out at the regular $24.99 price point. That seemed excessive considering her limited articulation and complete lack of accessories. GameStop had a buy one, get one free sale off of her already reduced $18.97 price point. It was nice getting her for $9 — even cheaper than Ollie’s. Most retailers now carry her for cheaper than $25 now.
Rating: 8 out of 10
Morgan would benefit from a soft goods skirt, but the lack of any kind of accessories is the real ding to the score of a figure that I was still happy to pick up.
Where to Get It? Morgan Elsbeth is still available at most retailers. I’d recommend GameStop first since that has been the one consistent figure I’ve seen for this sale. If you strike out there, you can always go with my affiliates Amazon and Entertainment Earth.
