Action Figure Reviews

Jada Toys Fire Man review

Fire Man is the last of the bosses in the recommended order to tackle the enemies in the first Mega Man game. There are tons of flashy robots Dr. Wily created along the way so I’m glad to see Jada Toys focusing on Mega Man 1’s lineup first. Their designs are just fun and immediately clue you in to their gimmick and weapons of choice.

I loved Jada’s Mega Man figure and have been looking forward to adding more of the Evil Robots. Yep, this is a serious rabbit hole but it’s too late to extinguish the fire now.

Let’s see if Fire Man lights my fire or if opening him up cools my flame.

Packaging: I love the personal touches to the packaging. Jada brings some fun personal touches to the packaging where it’s set up like the video game loading screen with font choices and the energy bar on the left side. They also added a portrait of Fire Man ready for the attack. To keep us focused on the line, both sides feature vintage game images of MM.

Over on the back is a plain image of Fire Man with his effect stand. I wish Jada incorporated the boss screen image with Fire Man selected or some cool factoids for just a mini-bio.

Likeness: Once again, Jada did a fantastic job of replicating the old video game appearance with this line. Fire Man has all of his signature elements intact. His knight style helmet with the exhaust vents leading to a translucent flame emanating from the top of his head. In lieu of a mouth, he’s got a chin guard that stretches up higher.

That detail continues on to the back as he’s got a gauge on the helmet along with a slot on his back. It’s nice to see Jada is committed to providing the full look for a character even one based on a 2D game where you’d never see his back.

His shoulder pads flare up giving him a slightly bulkier appearance. In the video game, he was designed thicker while the game art had him sleeker, so this was a clever compromise. Jada isn’t coming up with figures for potential repaint use as there doesn’t appear to be any common joints with Mega Man beyond the waist and upper thigh section.

Fire Man’s forearms are wider with detailed ports for the removable flame trails.

He’s got newer knees with the sculpted kneepads. Maybe the feet are also reused from Mega Man? That kind of part reuse is perfectly acceptable though so it’s definitely not a complaint.

Paint: Fire Man keeps Jada’s strong track record with paintwork intact. It’s impressive that they can so reliably nail the paintjob on their figures even one with extra line work around his eyes. The helmet’s exhaust vents have the black neatly painted.

There’s just a little bit of the flesh tone creeping over onto the chin guard. This is quickly becoming a company I can trust with no worries of shoddy paint jobs even when ordering online.

Scale: Fire Man isn’t the tallest of Dr. Wily’s robots and he’s just a bit taller than Mega Man. It’s nice that Jada is mixing up the scales and not using a basic height for everyone.

Articulation: Fire Man doesn’t need too much articulation. He just needs to hit a reasonable enough running stance when he’s making his charge and firing off another Fire Storm.

That doesn’t stop Jada Toys from cramming in as much articulation as possible, which is definitely appreciated.

This allows for more dynamic fighting stances in his face off with Mega Man.

Accessories:  Like Mega Man, Fire Man gets a decent amount of accessories.

First up are his flame bursts that plug into his forearms. Rather than just repeat the same mold, Jada went the extra mile and made two separate flame patterns. One is more of a straight up burst and the other is more of a smoldering blaze as if he’s about to shoot off some flames. That is very cool.

To showcase him in action a little, Jada also gave Fire Man a translucent red orange yellow energy burst as the start of his Fire Storm. They also added a stand to place the Fire Storm effect to sell that it’s in motion. I really dig that inclusion.

I appreciate Jada is committed to including alternate portraits. Fire Man’s second portrait features him giving a serious side eye. You’ll need to plug in the flame from the default head. This one has a bit more personality and I think this will be my default one going forward.

Worth it?  You can get Fire Man for as low as $18.99, which is a great price for this solid a figure. Jada Toys is really delivering high-end figures for an incredibly reasonable price point.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Fire Man is another easy win for the Jada Toys Mega Man line. It’ll be fun to pair him with Ice Man as they square off with Mega Man.
