Twisters 4K and Blu-Ray review
Twisters 4K and Blu-Ray blew into retailers this week for the ultimate home video experience of one of the year’s biggest blockbusters.
Strengthened by the star power of Glen Powell and solid performances by Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos, Twisters stands as the sixth highest grossing film domestically of 2024.
Director Lee Isaac Chung (The Mandalorian) is not so beholden to the 1996 original that Twisters ever feels like a remake. Longtime fans of the Helen Hunt/Bill Paxton action-drama might not be as impressed, but for a new generation, Twisters offers plenty to be excited about in large part because the film doesn’t abandon characters in favor of one action spectacle after another.
With its sprawling disaster scenes, this is one of those films that benefits the most from seeing in theaters and then getting to appreciate again with the 4K presentation. Twisters 4K is the best option especially since it also comes with a Blu-Ray and digital copy for on the move viewing.
Edgar-Jones plays Kate, a student chasing storms in hopes of finding ways to neutralize their damage and provide a better warning system for those in the tornado’s path. Twisters’ opening act grabs your attention with some riveting action and enough tragedy to establish most characters are fair game. Fast forward five years and Kate gets recruited by her old friend and storm chasing pal Javi (Ramos) to aid his crew. While reluctant, Kate eventually decides to help out.
At the latest potential site, Javi and his gang are joined by amateur storm chasing and an abrasive streaming personality Tyler (Powell) and his motley crew of fun personalities. What they lack in terms of funding from wealthy backers, Tyler and his crew are more than meets the initial eye test.
As more storms rage through the area, Kate, Tyler and Javi find a common ground just in time to potentially stop another monster tornado creates untold damage.
Twisters benefits from its strong cast even if there’s a point when the large ensemble gets sidelined in favor of building to a Tyler/Kate romance that never comes to fruition. Maybe for Twisters 2?
Twisters 4K Video Quality
Cinematographer Dan Mindel shot on film, a smart choice as it offers Twisters a subtle grainy quality that avoids a potential artificial quality if recorded digitally. This helps when showing the landscape with fields that have patches of dirt and easily discernable variations of the green grass.
Twisters 4K presentation is stunning capturing an impressive level of detail whether the weathered bumper of Tyler’s truck or the decimation left behind in the tornado’s wake. The 4K video makes it clearer to catch the driving rain and debris being scattered into the air in a nearly frightening put viewers in the middle of the storm kind of manner.
One of the standout sequences and the best to show-off to friends is the rodeo twister as there’s an excellent contrast with the bold colors of the rodeo participants and crowd against the backdrop of the chaotic storm.
Twisters 4K Audio Quality
The Dolby Atmos audio is one of the highlights of the release. The storms allow for a grand spectacle for a quality sound system picking up intensity like a tornado through the speakers. Rattling of roof shutters, breaking glass, electrical sparks and the whooshing winds all register at the appropriate volumes providing a stellar wind tunnel like audio experience.

Special Features
Deleted Scenes (2:04)
There’s not much to these deleted scenes thankfully. It’s always frustrating seeing a great scene end up missing the final cut. These three minor segments are so brief that their omission made more for a neat bonus feature, but hardly something essential to the story.
Gag Reel (3:57)
These segments always prove to be fun in seeing the chemistry of the cast. The Twisters cast certainly seemed to enjoy working with each other. There’s even a nice gag where Ramos makes a Superman joke on his co-star David Corenswet — the next actor to play The Man of Steel.
Tracking the Fronts: The Path of ‘Twisters (24:07)
The largest bonus feature starts off with the cast and crew discussing the impact of the original film in a fitting full circle moment. The filmmakers spend time raving about each other in a genuine way and the research they put into the role. This feature was much better than the norm as it truly spoke to the various elements of the filmmaking process.
Glen Powell: All Access (3:12)
Powell’s boundless charisma is on display in this sweet segment including a guest appearance from his parents.
Front Seat to a Chase (5:16)
The crew goes on a real storm chase with Sean Casey, a storm documentarian, who recorded storms as reference for the visual FX team. It’s a neat feature showing another quality behind the scenes look at the film.
Voice of a Villain (6:16)
Hear the creation of the film’s deafening howls with a seat in the studio where the audio team mixes unexpected sounds to give the storms a new dimension of depth.
Trucked-Out Trucks (4:31)
Buckle up for a wild ride in the film’s custom vehicles fitted with unique features ranging from rocket launchers to advanced radar tech.
Feature Commentary with Director Lee Isaac Chung
With a superior video and audio transfer, Twisters 4K is bound to thrill fans that want to relive the fun of the summer blockbuster all over again or use it as a home video showpiece.
