Dark Horse Comics reviews 11/6/24 – Nemesis Rogues’ Gallery #4
Nemesis Rogues Gallery #4 marks the penultimate chapter of the series. It’s the most action packed as Nemesis and Rookie squared off against the Rogues’ Gallery.
In a lot of ways writer Mark Millar has established that Nemesis had this confrontation coming. He’d maimed, dismembered and outright murdered so many it was only natural that some of his victims would come gunning for revenge. And with a leader able to match Nemesis’ strategic approach, this isn’t going to be the easy victory Nemesis is used to winning.
And that’s before the shark toss.
Nemesis and Rookie find themselves in a rare position as they’re facing an enemy they’re unprepared for who manage to get in more than a few lucky shots.
That’s been the fun of this series and Rogues Gallery #4 in particular. In other arcs, Nemesis just plowed through his opponents. With the only blood on Nemesis was just the blood spray from his victims. Now they’re drawing blood themselves and it’s providing the series with more drama in a Nemesis arc than ever before.

Artist Valerio Giangiordano is killing it with some intense action sequences and cinematic-like layouts that make Rogues’ Gallery #4 feel like reading a movie playing out. The aforementioned shark throwing moment was wild and perfectly fitting with the unpredictable nature of this series.
Colorist Lee Loughridge’s stark color choices highlight Giangiordano’s line work beautifully with piercing bright lighting effects and uninviting dark black sections. Clem Robins’ lettering is precise and sells the intensity of the action wonderfully.
There’s a hilarious line where Nemesis mentions the hardware of his opponents and calls them “old school super-villain stuff” as if in some world he could possibly be considered the hero.
Millar also unveils a major bombshell regarding the connection between the founder of the group going after Nemesis. That only furthers the dark homage to Batman that Millar has achieved so well with Nemesis.
Rogues Gallery #4 sets up what should be a wild finale and if it’s anything like the previous four issues, it should be a memorable conclusion.
