Falling in Love on the Path to Hell #6

After a reasonable amount of buildup, writer Gerry Duggan and artist Garry Brown get to the love aspect of Falling in Love on the Path to Hell.

MacRaith and Asami find themselves in another unpredictable scenario. They’ve been captured by the army of The Butcher of Caledonia, a vicious warlord who in his previous life battled against scores of Roman legions. The Butcher rightfully considers the duo dangerous and is all set to toss them into a volcano when he discovers MacRaith’s notebook showing another way off the island.

Charged with a new task, the pair set out to accomplish their mission while braving the treacherous terrain all around them. Brown sets up a terrific sight gag when the two encounter a strange new beast. Brown’s style works so seamlessly with the title — it’s not expertly polished, but it fits the tone beautifully. Colorist Chris O’Halloran comes up with some gorgeous color combinations that really pop on the page. Letterer Joe Sabino does very solid work distinguishing character emotions and the ever-present narrator caption boxes.

With this issue’s cliffhanger, Duggan and Brown are setting things up for a very intriguing next act. This remains one of the most consistently strong titles Image releases each month.
