Knights vs Samurai #3

Last issue saw the samurai overwhelm Sir Charles Ward and his contingent of knights as they’d been manipulated into a conflict by one of Ward’s men.

Writer David Dastmalchian establishes the significant language barrier as the samurai attempt to interrogate Ward and his knights to no avail. One really interesting aspect of these exchanges is letterer Andworld Design also includes the text for the samurai instead of just having an asterisk saying, ‘It’s translated into English.’ This does make some dialogue bubbles larger and take up some of the artwork, but it makes for a unique presentation.

Dastmalchian spends much of the issue on the two sides attempting to communicate while the shady party unleashes the hidden force they always intended to unleash.

Artist Federico Mele doesn’t have as much action to tackle this issue spending more time on the heated discussions and Ward’s frustrated army. Colorist Ulises Arreola tends to stick to a darker color palette but gives fire a blazing intensity.

While a slower paced issue compared to last month, the series ends on another strong note that might need to prompt a switch on the name of the title.
