Image Comics reviews 11/27/24 – Void Rivals #14, Hyde Street #2
Void Rivals #14
Void Rivals #14 was largely a set up issue. Writer Robert Kirkman set several wheels in motion for the next arc. While that might sound like a skippable issue, there’s more than enough noteworthy steps along the way to make this a must-buy.
Solila (and the Handroid) are searching for more clues to answer Zerta’s call. Darak is back on his home world and trying to understand his father’s perspective on why the war is so vital to the continuation of their species. While worlds apart, an unexplained link brings Darak and Solila together if only for a brief moment. Darak has another issue as a craft is soaring through space heading in the direction of his planet. And what’s going on with Pythona and the Cobra-La exploration ship?
Kirkman clearly has a number of plans underway with these various subplots. Void Rivals #14 isn’t lacking for notable events and the latest encounter with another Transformer is very intriguing.
Artist Lorenzo De Felici has so many different environments and settings to craft this issue. He has no trouble giving each area a distinct look from the more pristine palace of Darak and his father’s people to the barely visible caverns Solila traverses. There’s a fun space “shootout” De Felici stages as well. Colorist Patricio Delpeche uses a mesmerizing blend of purples and oranges with a bit more yellow for Void Rivals #14. Letterer Rus Wooton continues making sure the dialogue boxes for the various species have a unique font and special flourishes.
Void Rivals #14 was another solid installment of one of Image’s most reliable titles. With some big forces, including Cobra-La, heading to Darak and Solila the action is all but ensured to heat up even further.
