Absolute Wonder Woman #3

The true mark of a great book is that minor frustration upon getting to the last page of an issue. Knowing it’s going to be another month until the next installment.

Absolute Wonder Woman has quickly earned that status with another sensational issue that continues to find new ways to showcase Diana as a true hero.

The Tetracide is advancing onto Gateway City. Diana knows her power isn’t enough to stop it…on her own. Writer Kelly Thompson does an excellent job of selling the stakes. Diana doubts she can stop the Tetracide, but will do all she can to hold it off. It helps that Thompson writes Diana as confident when the situation calls for it but also being concerned when she’s not as certain of victory.

Thompson devotes this flashback subplot to how Diana got Steve Trevor back to the land of the living at the major price she paid. The Absolute Wonder Woman is being written incredibly well-rounded personality-wise, which makes those all-encompassing bad a$$ moments even more impactful.

Artist Hayden Sherman has such a perfect style for this book. Sherman makes the creatures larger than life just enveloping the panel. It gives Diana even more impact during these battles as she’s right in the thick of these long skirmishes. Other artists could do fine work on the title, but Sherman is doing something special and just needs a lengthy run to be one of the revered WW artists over the last decade.

Jordie Bellaire’s color work adds so much to the presentation and is closing in on returning to the NC area. Letterer Becca Carey weaves some interesting fonts and characters when Diana or Circe use magic spells.

It’s wild how Absolute Wonder Woman keeps getting better each month. Hopefully this streak doesn’t come to an end anytime soon.
