Dynamite Entertainment- Space Ghost #9 review
Space Ghost #9 further makes the case that this title is one of the unquestioned best in the industry.
In a rarity for the title, Space Ghost #9 is the second chapter of a two-part story. Metallus, the menace that killed Space Ghost’s family and left him for dead last issue.
But Space Ghost has a pesky habit of being notoriously hard to kill.
Writer David Pepose has an impressive talent for quickly and effectively building strong villains. Metallus might be the most formidable.
Jan and Jace are on a rescue mission to make sure Metallus’ drones and robot army invading a planet.
Propose ensures all of the main characters gets an ample showcase with the twins really standing out in countering Metallus’ invasion.
Pepose again proves the value of condensed storytelling. Most stories are told in one issue while the larger, more menacing threats are given two issues.
This approach lets readers know when Space Ghost and company are seriously challenged. That doesn’t mean the one-off issues feature chumps. Pepose has just mastered telling strong stories without needing six to seven issues for each villain.

Artist Jonathan Lau continues doing amazing work making each subsequent issue look more like screenshots from a big budget cinematic production.
The dramatic perspectives and intensity in the action sequences really take Space Ghost #9 to another level.
This is the kind of consistency that an artist can reflect on years later knowing they delivered some of their best work in visually elevating a title.
Colorist Andrew Dalhouse also provides some stellar color work playing up the deep blacks of space and darkened corridors Space Ghost traverses to chase down Metallus. As always the colors pop with Jan and Jace’s costumes helping to make them shine in Space Ghost’s world.
Letterer Taylor Esposito stays impressively consistent with arrangements of dialogue and sound effects.
Those waiting on Space Ghost to fall from its lofty heights may be better off giving up that thought.
Space Ghost #9 just shows there’s no stopping or slowing down this series’ momentum.
