DC Multiverse Geo Force review – McFarlane Collector Edition No. 24

Geo Force is a rarity for the McFarlane Collector Edition subset of the DC Multiverse series. He’s a character that Mattel never managed to make a figure of in its DC Classics line. We’re seeing McFarlane Toys tackle more of these types of characters, which is a welcome trend.

Geo Force is typically a team guy normally a member of The Outsiders, but he’s also had a cup of coffee in the Justice League. The Outsiders have been an underserved team in the Multiverse line, but with Black Lightning already made we’ve at least got two mainstays.

Let’s see if Geo Force shakes things up or if his figure should be buried way down in the deep.

Packaging:  The Collector Edition line sports silver foil accents instead of the usual white in the base Multiverse line. We also get a wider window showcases more of the accessories and the figure. And this figure also has that handy Platinum Edition embossed sticker to state this is not the normal retail version.

This package setup never features anything exciting. Along the side, there’s a note that this version of Geo Force is from The Outsiders. Want to check out more on the team? Likeness: Geo Force is a character I almost totally associate with Jim Aparo, so it was going to be hard for this figure to truly “look” like how I envision him. McFarlane Toys opted to use the Speeding Bullets mold once again for him.

I like the bulk of this mold but hate that it includes unique sculpted detail namely the ridges on the arms and legs. They’re not as distracting as they’ve been on some figures (see: Black Lightning), but it’s the kind of thing they really should stop doing. For all of the really impressive strides McFarlane Toys has made in the last year or so, this is by far my biggest annoyance with the Multiverse line.

Geo Force has three face plates, but the display one isn’t the best option. It’s a yelling expression that looks a little off thanks to the whited-out eyes based off of Robin #14 (2022). An issue with the three head sculpts is the eye holes in his mask are smaller than Geo Force usually had them in the comics. This is a subtle thing that is more of an issue with the paint job.

The hair sculpt is wilder with strands going in every direction. It’s a good representation of how it would look when his powers kick in although I would have loved a separate calmer hair sculpt. He does have the gauntlets and shin bracelets. While the center dial on his belt is correct, his classic green and yellow costume should have slots along the belt instead of pouches. It’s a minor detail if you’re not the biggest Geo Force and this certainly works well enough.

Scale: Geo Force is listed at 6′ so he should be looking up at the 6’2″ Batman. The Speeding Bullets mold is appropriately thick for a Batman/Superman body, but it’s too big and tall for a normal person, which makes Geo Force a bit taller than Batman. Sigh.

Paint:  This is the Platinum Edition, which means we get the more popular green and yellow attire. The pale shade of yellow contrasts nicely with the green, but it doesn’t stand out strong enough with the paler skin tone. The reason he has a pale shade is due to the standard version having a red and orange paint scheme. A “tanner” skin tone would have blended in too much with the orange.

McFarlane Toys largely gets the extra details right with figures for the platinum versions. Geo Force’s logo doesn’t just blend into the costume like the red and orange version does. Instead, the yellow extends further down his chest to fully envelop the logo circle. His belt and bracelets are painted in more of a yellow orange hue. The circle in his belt has a target painted just like the comics. The only thing missing with the figure is the yellow stripes along the side of his legs. Ironically that could have covered the sculpted strip along the legs.

Articulation: Geo Force has the standard articulation scheme for the line with 22 points of articulation. He can strike some pretty fun, dynamic poses whether with simulated brawling poses or triggering his powers.

Accessories:  Geo Force is unusually lean for accessories for a Collector Edition release although he does have some welcome new pieces.

First up are the two additional face plates. One is a weird, way too smiley expression. This face plate works well for a Crime Syndicate version of Geo Force as it’s a more deranged smile than a friendly, disarming smile.

The other is much better with a solid neutral expression that’s probably going to be the only one I display with Geo Force beyond this review.

The no face look is funny without anything besides the tongue hanging out to add depth for the yelling expression.

He does get a welcome new accessory with two translucent red energy bursts to simulate his power charging as he launches himself in the air to fly.

Geo Force also has the basic circular black stand and a trading card. He certainly would have benefitted from some additional hand options and a separate extra hair sculpt.

Worth it?  The Collector Edition figures run $30. Based on that price, Geo Force is a bad value since he comes with less than some regular figures. Given the lack of accessories, Geo Force really should have just been a regular $22.99 figure.

Rating: 8 out of 10

I appreciate getting a classic version of Geo Force but would have loved to get him on a different mold and for a cheaper price point.

Where to get it?  Geo Force seems to be easier to find at retail at Target. The trick is finding the one platinum version if you want this classic look.
