DC Comics reviews 3/26/25 – Batman 158, Absolute Wonder Woman #6

Absolute Wonder Woman #6

absolute wonder woman 6

Absolute Wonder Woman enters a new arc with this issue along with a new artist, but the quality of one of DC’s best titles, doesn’t suffer at all.

Diana has been brought to Hades’ Underworld. Hades wants to know how she escaped and came to man’s world. This premise gives writer Kelly Thompson a chance to flex on her mythology writing as Diana recalls how she came to gain possession of the Nemesis Lasso. She took a long journey to reach a chained Prometheus. Thompson shows Diana’s grace and respect for some of the gods, an interesting contrast to the sarcasm she slyly slings at Hades.

From there, Diana tells of her encounter with the Last Basilisk using her cunning and skills in witchcraft courtesy of her mother, Circe. This issue was a blast all around as Thompson kept weaving in these incredible tasks that Diana endured with interludes for commentary from Hades. This was a really enjoyable read. Mattia De Iulis handled the art this issue and it is beautiful. De Iulis’ style is reminiscent of Stjepan Šejić, who seemed to draw these elaborate paintings with every issue of his Aquaman run. If De Iulis stays on the book beyond this two-issue arc, the title could find another level to ascend taking absolutely nothing away from the fine artwork from Hayden Sherman.

This book is really special and DC needs to do everything possible to keep Thompson on board and avoid the temptation to rush into crossovers or big Absolute Universe events. Absolute Wonder Woman doesn’t need any super friends. Not when she’s got these super creators crafting her adventures.
