GI Joe Real American Hero: Silent Missions – Jinx #1
The Special Missions feature for April continues to pay homage to the landmark Silent Interlude with a dialogue-free issue starring Jinx. Of the characters announced for this weekly April event, Jinx seemed the best candidate.
Real American Hero writer Larry Hama did the original Silent Interlude with Snake Eyes then a sound effect only issue starring Storm Shadow, so his cousin Jinx was probably overdue. Hama isn’t writing this issue as Destro writer Dan Watters co-wrote the issue with Dani, who also provided the art.
Jinx is carrying out a sabotage mission to destroy a Cobra factory. The issue kicks off with Jinx placing out her explosions before encountering a squad of Crimson Guards.

Dani does some solid work with the layouts with a very inspired page of Jinx confronting a Crimson Guard and a Night Creeper. Some of the action sequences are less clear in terms of what’s happening, but overall, Dani and Watters do well with the assignment. Brad Simpson sticks to a simple but effective color palette of white, red, ice blue and black.
Jinx’s silent interlude chapter is fairly smooth with a character that benefits from the storytelling format.
