Andor- Who Else Knows review S2 E11

Who Else Knows brings the Empire’s long-running secret project to light as the ISB scrambles to keep the energy program’s true nature in the shadows just a bit longer.

For most of Who Else Knows, Perrin is using the full weight of his power. Early on, he tries to find out what happened at the hospital in the wake of Kleya’s infiltration and successful mission to finish off Luthen. The problem with having a massive secret is the paranoia that spreads among the secret-holders at the idea that their big news is out to the masses.

Director Krennic is not at all thrilled to have to deviate from his plans to determine who else knows about the files Dedra accessed. Krennic is such a great villain in the Star Wars universe as he feels like he could easily play in any kind of genre, but he’s such a unique and menacing presence in his own right in this franchise.

Besides that emotional moment where Syril throttles her, Dedra hasn’t been this rattled before and it’s a bit worrisome to see such a cold and calculated character this out of sorts.

Krennic has worked for years to keep various branches of the Empire in the dark about the Death Star so he’s not thrilled that Dedra’s upward mobility mentality could jeopardize his efforts when he’s so close to the finish line. Ben Mendelsohn delivers two especially harsh lines. “If you’re not a Rebel spy you missed your calling.” After Dedra suggests tracking down Kleya, Krennic icily responds “We’ll do our best to try and carry on without you.”

Kleya knows she has to move quickly to pass on the information Luthen gave her, no matter the cost. There’s a question if Kleya does care about carrying on without her father/father figure now dead at her hands. Back at the safe house, she cobbles together rigs a bootleg comm device using parts she had hidden.

MORE:

Like Luthen, Kleya has worked to control and contain her emotions, but the lack of real sleep and overwhelming feeling that the walls are closing in on her is putting her on edge. Her paranoia was well-founded as Perrin has tracked her down using the hospital security feed and passed it on to Krennic and Partagaz. The latter works up a quick story that she’s got an infectious disease and needs to be rounded up. Krennic assures Partagaz that he’s got everything under control and can protect him once the Death Star is operational.

Kleya’s message did land at its intended recipients. Wilmon gets the message and crashes a card game with Cassian, the now familiar opinionated version of K2-SO and Sgt. Melshi, the guy with the blaster that joined the Rebellion last week. He was one of the soldiers that went with Cassian and Jyn to Jedha in Rogue One. We know at least four characters will survive Who Else Knows, will there be any more?

It was fun hearing the familiar K2. His absence for most of the series was the most noticeable as their banter immediately in Who Else Knows shows we missed a lot of exciting subplots with a Rebel and His Robot. Rightfully expecting this rescue mission to get turned down, Cassian opts for the asks for forgiveness route instead of permission method.

Wilmon has to stay behind and deal with tells Gen. Draven, who isn’t thrilled that Wilmon suggests that without Luthen, the Rebellion wouldn’t be here.

Not too proud to get help, Perrin asks Dedra for assistance. She suggests that Kleya would be using old tech. That suggestion checks out as the ISB tech is amazed at how smart Luthen and Kleya’s operation was to the chagrin of her supervisor. There’s no need to worry about her fangirling out as she does happen to catch Kleya sending out another message — this time as Cassian is landing.

Kleya’s response to seeing Cassian on the other side of the door is funny “It would be you, wouldn’t it?” She gives Cassian all the intel she has, but her delivery isn’t as calm and measured as normal. She’s not down with the plan to go to Yavin as she knows what the Rebellion on Yavin thinks about Luthen. Yeah, go ask Wilmon.

K2 is waiting on the ship but realizes the ISB has jammed communication and heads out to start mauling Imperial troops. It’s nice to see the Empire getting tossed around for a change. But can he make it in time to help Cassian, Kleya and Melshi as the ISB Tactical agents close in?

Andor has largely shied away from this kind of cliffhanger so it’s ok to make an exception with Who Else Knows.

At 37 actual minutes, Who Else Knows was one easily the shortest episode of the season. It delivered some serious thrills and some fun moments leading to what should be a monumental series finale.
