Final Destination Bloodlines reigns with franchise best debut $51M
Final Destination Bloodlines was enjoying some unexpected critical praise in advance of its opening weekend. There definitely seemed to be a surge in interest in seeing the latest installment of the popular early 2000s horror thriller series in 14 years.
That led to a staggering $51 million opening, by far the best in the six-film series. The previous best was The Final Destination, which opened in 2009 to $27.4 million. Final Destination Bloodlines’ massive opening suggests audiences were ready for more chapters of the series where death is the aggressive monster trying to hunt down its victims.
Final Destination Bloodlines also benefited from major critic goodwill. Critics gave Final Destination Bloodlines a 93% freshness rating and its CinemaScore is a solid B+. The film isn’t likely to repeat atop the box office given the arrival of another film touting final in its title with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which seems poised to dominate the Memorial Day box office weekend. To top the best gross of the series, it only needs to score another $87 million worldwide, which seems like an easy feat even with Final Reckoning and the live-action Lilo & Stitch hitting theaters next week.

Thunderbolts* had its come to reality moment with its second-place finish of $16.5 million for its third weekend. This takes the film’s domestic total to $155 million and $323 million worldwide.
While Disney CEO Bob Iger was touting the film as a needed shift to the new Marvel movie strategy and a bit of a course correction, the numbers weren’t bearing that out. This keeps Thunderbolts* behind Captain America: Brave New World, which closed its domestic box office run at $200 million. With so much competition coming next weekend, the best bet for Thunderbolts* to eclipse Brave New World was this weekend.
Continuing its impressive box office performance, Sinners brought in another $15.4 million for third place. Domestically, Sinners has furthered its gap with Brave New World for a 2025 second-best haul of $240.8 million. Its worldwide total now stands at $316 million. The headlines questioning if Sinners would become profitable after its opening weekend look increasingly sillier.
In fourth place was the third Warner Bros. film in the top 3 with A Minecraft Movie. The year’s highest grossing movie added another $5.9 million for its seventh weekend, showing a staggering longevity among the Top 5. Its domestic total is now $416 million and an additional $510 internationally for a mighty $926 million worldwide haul as it closes in on a billion dollars.
The Accountant 2 added another $5 million in its fifth weekend taking its domestic tally to $59 million.
