The Last of Us – Feel Her Love review S2 E5
Feel Her Love put Ellie and Dina directly in the crosshairs of both warring factions in an episode that progressed slowly until its intense final act.
A group of Wolves are at a closed off elevator shaft in the hospital. Keep in mind this is the big save point for Ellie and Dina as that’s where Abby’s friend, Nora, is based. Their hope is by finding Nora they can ultimately get Abby and some long overdue payback.
Hanrahan (Alanna Ubach), the woman who welcome Isaac to the fight, gives meaningful glares back at the troops at the barricade before chatting with Elise (Hettienne Park).
Elise was in charge of two squads that she sealed off on the other side of the elevator shaft. She’d sent her best man, Leon, to investigate the area and he got back on the coms barely able to breathe. Leon wasn’t bit, but he broke the news to Elise that the fungi is in the air, which prompted her to seal off the area to save the rest of the others in the hospital. Satisfied that Elise hadn’t suddenly lost it and turned traitor, Hanrahan says she’ll explain Elise’s heroics. And she’s sorry Elise lost her son…Leon.
It’s Day 2 now for Dina and Ellie on their Seattle Road trip to Revenge. Dina’s focused on finding a safe way to the hospital in between the Wolves patrols while Ellie is acting all smitten. Happy in Love Ellie is not my favorite. She’s been a constantly irritable and prickly character, so this new shift is almost insufferable since she should be on all-out payback mode.
While checking out the theater they’ve holed up in, Ellie finds a stage full of instruments. This doesn’t feel like the right time for another concert. Ellie agrees and puts the guitar after starting to sing. Dina’s mapped out a gap in the Wolves security thanks to them blabbering their locations constantly. There’s a suspiciously large building where the Wolves end their patrols on either side. Clearly there’s some infected in there, but could it really be a horde or something more imposing to keep the Wolves away?
As they head out, they spot a mural with ‘Feel Her Love’ written. The Wolves didn’t take too kindly to it and placed some Scars under it. Instead of saying they feel her love, they wrote ‘Feel This B#@%’ Not quite as effective a campaign slogan, but it is an effective rebuttal.
Feel Her Love wasn’t the first episode of The Last of Us where Ellie and Dina are talking around loudly, but it sure felt like the one where they needed more noise discipline. Dina explains how a raider killed her mother and sister and how she would have traveled after that raider to avenge them. She gets Ellie’s focus and is happy to go get payback for Joel too. At this point, Dina is becoming a better character than Ellie at this point of the show.
They make it to that mysterious building without incident and as they cautiously check it out, Dina tells Elie she loves her. The Last of Us is really walking a razor’s edge of messing up a perfectly great revenge quest for the sake of a love story.

Eventually, they hear an infected, but it’s one of the smart ones. And she’s not alone. They give it a decent go but get overwhelmed. Just as it seems like Feel Her Love should be the series finale, Jesse arrives and kills the smart infected. He found the map Dina left behind in the theater. Tommy went with him to find them a day after they left so they didn’t have a massive head start. This scene in Feel Her Love felt like one of those heroes conveniently defying the odds to stay alive moments the show has largely been able to avoid.
Jesse leads them to the park where the Wolves apparently will not follow. They don’t go there because this is the haven of the zealots. The Scars are busy holding a special ceremony as the leader (Maurice Dean Wint) opens up a Wolf with a scythe as some others string him up. It’s a pretty brutal way to go. At this point, it’s hard to say which faction is worse.
While the trio was pretty quiet (for Ellie and Dina at least), they were spotted, and Dina gets a crossbow bolt to the leg. Ellie tries to divert the Scars providing a distraction so Jesse can get Dina away. Guess this was our first look at the wacky family dynamic in store once Dina gives birth? Ellie avoids the Scars by hiding in a tree and spots a Wolves outpost by the hospital. Lucky break.
Conventional thinking is the Wolves would have the hospital guarded stronger than most of their facilities. It’s a location they can’t afford to lose, after all. Nevertheless, Ellie manages to sneak in and confront Nora.
Initially, Nora sounds remorseful, but it’s all a ruse for her to get away from Ellie and alert the apparently guard unit of a whopping three Wolves that there’s an intruder. Ellie is hecka reckless so it’s fortunate the Wolves left one of their most important bases so defenseless. Instead of trying to find a weapon to fight back, Nora keeps running — wouldn’t she know where even one gun was located here? — and eventually heads down the elevator shaft into B2. Say what up to Leon for us.
Ellie chases after her and sees visible spores and fungi are visible. The halls are coated in the fungi and Ellie spots a few guys trapped in the fungi walls. The second one actually is Leon. Ellie hears Nora coughing and demands Abby’s location.
Nora is shocked to actually see the mythical immune girl is actually real. Nora explains that Joel killed everyone in that hospital including the only person alive who could have made a cure — Abby’s father. Ellie said she knew (!) and still wants to know Abby’s location. Ellie spots a pipe with the clear intent to use it. Nora still won’t talk so Ellie starts bashing her and yelling “Where is she?”
The Wolves all have this kind of beatdown coming so if the intent was to elicit any kind of sympathy for them, it won’t work for me. Bring the pain, Ellie!
That’s not all for Feel Her Love. Ellie wakes up in a nice comfy bed and is greeted by Joel. Oooh, bring on the flashback!
