Star Wars The Black Series Director Orson Krennic review (2025)
Director Krennic immediately shot up the list of important Star Wars characters following his appearance in Rogue One, which quickly became a favorite among even longtime fans.
During the Rogue One hype, Hasbro released a Black Series Krennic figure (available on Amazon). It was a fairly terrible figure and not at all worth getting. Hasbro re-released the Rogue One gang over the last few years but the driving villainous force of the film — Director Krennic — was stuck with a lousy offering.
With his appearance in Andor, Hasbro got another timely opportunity to finally make good and release a much better figure. Let’s see if this Andor version of Director Krennic is a worthy addition to the Imperial officer display or if needs to get fired when ready.
Packaging: While I would have preferred a mural image to fit in with the Rogue One crew, Director Krennic is part of the Andor line with its deeper red accent against the standard black packaging.
He’s number 13 in the Andor series. As usual the bio does an excellent job of explaining the character and his role in the Star Wars mythos.
Likeness: Director Krennic sports the vastly improved face printing technique. His previous release was underwhelming with a poor likeness to actor Ben Mendelssohn.
The base body was fine and has been reused for other Imperial officers including Grand Moff Tarkin. It’s got the imperial admiral tunic complete with all the smaller details like the silver clasp on the right side and his Imperial admiral rank badge.
He also has the standard flared pants with boots that come up to the lower portion of his knees.
His belt includes a silver buckle and a holster on the right hip.

Paint: With the original figure, the head sculpt actually wasn’t bad, but the paint job really let it down.
It’s significantly improved with this release with detailing like coloring for the bags under his eyes and done gradient in his hair so it’s not all one shade. Ditto for his tunic pin and badge.
Scale: Director Krennic was about average height at 5’11” so he should be looking up at the 6’ Galen Erso and Grand Moff Tarkin and definitely looking up at the 6’8” Darth Vader.
Articulation: Krennic could get his hands dirty as needed with a blaster, but he was far more the arrogant Imperial leader type. That means he was often directing (ha!) from the sidelines instead of the frontline.
The base body allows for all the movement you’d really need from a Director Krennic figure.
His elbow range needed a deeper cut for a smudge more movement, but you can fudge that pondering officer pose.
He can easily assume a standard aiming his blaster pose for that final battle on Scariff.
Director Krennic has:
- neck
- shoulders
- elbow (with swivel)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- hips
- thighs
- knees (double jointed)
- ankles
Accessories: Director Krennic gets two accessories — depending on your point of view.
The first is his DT-29 heavy blaster pistol with macroscope. All of the details for the blaster are well done in his scale although it lacks any paint applications specifically the maroon on the base. It also should have some black in the slots at the barrel. Instead, it’s all silver. I wonder if that’s detail I could manage to paint without much trouble…
His second accessory is his cape. It’s a plastic piece and essentially functions as a cone since it’s just a shell. It’s not terrible but can’t lay as flush as a true cape would along someone’s soldiers.
Ideally the cape would rest so it could but against Director Krennic’s tunic pins. The latest Krennic figure has a soft goods cape, which would have been nice to see incorporated with this re-release.
Worth it? Director Krennic retails for $24.99. That’s the average price for what amounts to a better head sculpt. It’s probably not worth the upgrade if you got the existing figure but well worth it you don’t.
Rating: 9 out of 10
Director Krennic is a pretty good figure even without the soft goods cape to really pull off the look. The updated head sculpt is a big improvement and is essential for any worthwhile Rogue One/Andor collection.
Where to get it? I’ve seen Director Krennic at Target although I ordered mine from Hasbro Pulse. You can also get him through Amazon or Entertainment Earth.
