Space Ghost 12 review – Dynamite Entertainment
Space Ghost 12 raises a serious question. Is there a better pure superhero comic on the stands better than Space Ghost?
There are a slew of great books out there— the Energon Universe, the Ghost Machine brand and the Millarworld lineup — but from a classic hero and his allies fighting dangerous and menacing villains perspective, nothing tops Space Ghost.
Space Ghost 12 picks up from last issue where all of Space Ghost’s greatest villains — Dr. Ibal, The Widow, Creature King, Brak, Metallus, Moltar and Zorak — have united to form the Council of Doom. Their first action was to ambush Space Ghost, Jan and Jace. Given that each enemy has posed a threat to Space Ghost it wasn’t shocking their combined might left him severely wounded and Blip stolen.
With this chapter in Space Ghost 12, the heroes strike back. Writer David Pepose wrote all the villains as menacing in their own right so it wouldn’t make much sense if they suddenly became ineffective and bumbling idiots now.
Thankfully, Pepose is a better writer than that and comes up with a logical manner for Team Ghost to start evening the odds.
In the process, Space Ghost 12 shows the hard-earned teamwork the group has developed over the previous 11 installments. It makes the investment in those early issues as Space Ghost and Jan & Jace worked through their initial growing pains all the more worthwhile.

Artist Jonathan Lau again delivers thrilling action sequences that convey Space Ghost as a powerhouse hero. Maybe even more effectively, Lau makes the Council of Doom look formidable. Space Ghost 12 packs the largest concentration of action so far in the series and Lau has no trouble ‘directing’ the full-on spectacle to craft it like a summer blockbuster.
Colorist Andrew Dalhouse wows with impressive color combinations. Dalhouse does a stellar job of coloring darker hues around the main characters whose bright white and yellow gear further helps them to pop.
The lighting effect for Space Ghost’s brilliant white and Moltar’s flames looked incredible. Jan and Jace’s costumes with their blues and yellows also stand out strongly. Letterer Taylor Esposito aligns the text smoothly and weaves in some dynamic sound effect fonts as well.
Space Ghost 12 keeps the thrills with this title rolling setting up Space Ghost and his sidekicks up for a major face-off against all of their biggest foes. Again, if you’re not reading this book you’re missing out on one of the absolute finest series in comics today as Space Ghost continues to impress month after month.
