Geiger 15

geiger 15

Geiger 15 marks an epic conclusion to the current arc featuring Ashley Arden.

The Glowing Woman set up a trap that would detonate a nuclear device. Ashley’s hope is that Tariq will contain the bomb’s detonation while taking her powers so she can lead a normal life.

Other forces are also in play plotting against them as The President is leading his forces to apprehend Tariq. Meanwhile Junkyard Joe is in the midst of being reprogrammed by his creator as Nate the Nuclear Knight tries to convince General Blackwood that he, Barney and Zigzag are here to help prevent a nuclear fallout.

Writer Geoff Johns has plenty of characters to juggle, but he never struggles giving them an equal share of the spotlight while moving the story along. As tensions mount, the intensity and sense of urgency increases. Johns is a master at building up big potentially devastating moments and paying it off in a manner that doesn’t feel cheap.

MORE:

Artist Gary Frank is similarly excellent at conveying the emotion and crafting clean action sequences. With several characters wearing masks or otherwise having their faces obscured, Frank still exceeds at selling their mood.

Colorist Brad Anderson delivers his usual high quality lighting work in showcasing Geiger and Ashley’s powers. Anderson also uses strong color choices to bring out Frank’s detailed artwork. Letterer Rob Leigh provides clean dialogue and dynamic sound effects.

Geiger and Redcoat stand out among the crowded quality titles to be some of the best reads in comics.

This issue is a tremendous showcase of everything this series does so well.
