Marvel Legends Ikaris review – BAF Zabu wave (2024)
Ikaris gets another crack at a Marvel Legends figure — this time in his comic book look instead of his MCU costume. There’s little reason to hope that Hasbro will crank out even a passable number of Eternals, but he’s the best one to start a new never gonna finish faction. Yes, Sersi already has a figure, but it’s far more based on her Avengers look than her run with the Eternals.
Despite the film’s lack of success, it was surprising that Ikaris is the first regular member to get the ML comic book treatment. Fingers crossed for at least Sersi in her base green attire and Starfox, who has the added bonus of being another Avenger.
Ikaris was one of the major surprises of the Build-A-Figure Zabu wave due to the amount of work put into a character that wasn’t at the top of a lot of ML fans’ top 10 lists. Sometimes it pays to be a movie star. Let’s see if this Ikaris will soar or if he’s gonna get burnt under poor execution.
Packaging: As with all the other figures in this wave, Ikaris is packaged in the signature black with red trim with an orange yellow accent color. Unlike some others, Ikaris’ color scheme does pop against that background color.
I’m pretty sure both the side and rear art are done by Daniel Acuna. We do have different drawings thankfully. His bio is pretty generic and not as helpful for folks who aren’t overly familiar with him and the other Eternals.
Likeness: Ikaris might be one of the more impressive figures from the 2024 Marvel Legends lineup as the sculpt is amazingly true to the source material. Jack Kirby created The Eternals and all of the complex design elements he incorporated into Ikaris’ costume.
From the three discs with gold embellishments, the four smaller circles atop two straps around his waist, the detailed skirt piece and the Iron Man-style ribbed gloves and boots are intact. The only deviation from Kirby’s artwork is the hair, which is done in a slightly more modern windswept style. He’s got a classic hero head sculpt looking fiercely determined and ready for action.
Simply based on the intense work done on this sculpt, Hasbro has to do 2-3 more Eternals, so he has someone to hang out with on the shelf. He’s too sharply done a figure to be a one-off team member.
Scale: Ikaris is listed at 6’2″ so he’ll be looking up at other powerhouses like the 6’5″ Hercules or the 6’6″ Thor. He should be at eye level with the 6’2″ Captain America. He matches up perfectly with them and alongside Thanos and Sersi.

Paint: Some of Ikaris’ costume details like the jagged lines down his skirt make it harder to get a precise paintjob. This is still very close to being a flawless paint job, which is commendable given the challenge posed here.
There is one gripe however and this is one that dings the Marvel Legends line every so often. Ikaris has a blue costume that’s more of the 70s classic Superman shade of blue than the dark royal blue used for the figure.
In another legacy issue for ML, the gold accent points are colored more of a yellow in the comics. That’s not a big problem with Ikaris since the gold works, but that lighter shade of blue certainly would have helped make the gold elements look sharper.
Articulation: Ikaris can pretty much do anything from flying to projecting energy blasts and going toe to toe with Deviants. That said, his articulation scheme needs to have the kind of poseability to allow him to pull off a variety of fighting movements.
His skirt is made up of a pliable plastic, so it doesn’t limit any of his leg movement.
He couldn’t get the more modern butterfly shoulder joint thanks to the chest design. That’s not a complaint as the aesthetics of his costume is more important in this instance.
Ikaris has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders (with butterfly shoulder joint)
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- upper torso
- waist
- hip
- thigh
- knee (double-jointed)
- ankle
Accessories: Ikaris doesn’t have a lot of obvious accessory options save the eye blast priming head sculpt we got with the MCU figure. Given the clear and obvious work on this dedicated sculpt, he gets a pass with just having a set of open hands set to unleash some energy blasts.
He does come with the rear right leg of the BAF Zabu.
Worth it? Amazon had a great sale for the Zabu wave during the Christmas holiday, so I was able to get Ikaris for $15 instead of the usual $25. That is a major deal for a figure with so much elaborate work done on the sculpt when he easily could have been the most phoned-in character in the wave.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Ikaris is a sneaky great figure from 2024. The Marvel Legends team really needs to crank out more of the Eternals as it’d be a shame for him to not have more of his comic crew if they could turn out this nicely.
