GI Joe Classified Series MASS Device Breaker review No. 158 (2025)
Breaker is one of the vaunted Original 13 G.I. Joes. He was pretty relatable to me as he was constantly chewing bubble gum in the comic book series. His comic and figure/cartoon look were vastly different from each other, but either portrayal was cool.
Hasbro released a Classified Series Breaker with the RAM Cycle early into its partnership for exclusive figures with Target. That figure/vehicle pack eventually went on deep clearance, but some newer Classified Series collectors missed out prompting Hasbro to get an updated version of Breaker out for the masses. Fittingly under the MASS Device branding.
Let’s see if this Breaker comes in clearly or if it needs to get discarded like stale gum.
Package: Breaker mostly has the same package setup as the usual Classified Series figures with the exception of a big MASS device logo on the front showing the three catalytic elements in their canisters.
His side art is pretty cool showing him tapping into his comm device while blowing a bubble. It’s quintessential Breaker and one that perfectly sums up his character. Over on the back, he’s filling his canister with the third volcanic element for the MASS Device while a trio of Skystrikers fly overhead.
I have some issue with Hasbro over my guy Breaker’s skill sets as he should be at least a four in a few categories. He scores a two star in telecommunications and linguistics as well as a one star in communications (huh?) and in cryptography.
Likeness: Initially, I thought the MASS Device Breaker was just going to be a simple reuse of the original Breaker body with different web gear.
He’s reusing the Rock N Roll mold, which provides the higher rolled up sleeves and slimmer knee pads.
His head sculpt is also new with a more matted-down hairstyle, a cleaner beard/goatee and more intense expression.
This time he’s wearing the same web gear as Grunt with the abundance of pouches and the data pad that flips down.
Scale: Breaker is a regular height Joe so he should look Stalker, Rock N Roll and Clutch eye to eye. Aside from Leatherneck being a tad too short and Gung-Ho being a little too tall, the scale has been pretty dead on with this line.

Paint: For the MASS Device Breaker, Hasbro gave him a blue-green color scheme to make him stand out apart from the others like he appeared in the cartoon. The cartoon colors were a bit more of a blue-grey while this still has a tint of green in it. His outfit style is definitely more Original 13, but his colors are distinct.
This version of Breaker also has more of a tan skin tone with a more lifelike face print making for a sharper paint job around his eyes, cheeks and beard. The paint work is mostly fine with his sleeves being the main culprit for stray or sloppy applications.
Articulation: The Classified Series figures all feature the same level of quality articulation allowing them to hit very dynamic poses. The MASS Device Breaker benefits from a smaller harness and web gear allowing him to make better use of his butterfly shoulder articulation.
My original Breaker had a weak left knee, which made getting him in some poses a little challenging. That’s not the case here as his joints are nice and tight.
Breaker has:
- head
- neck
- shoulders (butterfly)
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- mid-torso
- torso
- waist
- hips (ball-jointed)
- drop down hips
- knees (double-jointed)
- ankles
Accessories: Since he’s not packaged with a motorcycle, Breaker gets more accessories this time out.
First, he gets a pistol with a silencer attachment. That makes sense for a guy who might be on some covert ops to tap into Cobra communications alongside Snake Eyes and Scarlett.
He’s got a plain knife that fits in the sheath around his left pectoral.
The original figure ditched the vintage style backpack/headset rig in place of a more modern helmet comm device. This version reverts to that classic setup. His helmet is the standard modern Joe gear with a comm mic on the left side. It connects to the backpack with a fairly simplistic design.
Additionally, he’s got an alternate head sculpt featuring Breaker blowing a bubble. That was one of the major selling points for me with this version of Breaker although I wouldn’t have been upset if we’d also gotten a comic-throwback clean shaven look as well.
If you wanted, Breaker could also wear the original figure’s helmet if you want a modernized look for him.
Finally, he’s got a canister with the meteor dust, the third and final element to unleash the MASS Device. I’m digging this inclusion and hope it pays off with an actual MASS Device to place it in at some point. Hasbro did make one for the 25th Anniversary line so it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
Worth It? Breaker is the usual $24.99 price point. The Joes always have enough accessories to warrant the price tag. Breaker certainly delivers on that front as the Classified Series continues to be the best value figure line.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Breaker is another great addition to the line. Hasbro changed up enough to warrant picking this version up although I do wish we’d gotten a clean shaved head sculpt this time.
Where to Get It? Someone at Target must really have a soft spot for Breaker as this is his second figure and second that’s exclusive to Target. You can stalk the website, but he might be easier to find in stores.
