Marvel Legends Multiple Man review (2022)
Multiple Man already got a Marvel Legends figure in his X-Factor attire. That was the most-wanted look as his X-Factor stint is the most definitive of his career. I also was hoping we’d see Jamie Madrox in his original attire since that what his early longtime attire that he wore in aiding the X-Men when Proetus arrived and again during the Muir Island Saga.
This was also the costume he wore in his debut when he initially clashed with the Fantastic Four. With that much history associated with that look it was nice to see the Marvel Legends team get this out in one of the Retro X-Men waves.
Let’s see if this figure has me seeing double in a good way or if there’s no reason to buy multiples of this man.
Packaging: Multiple Man has the familiar Retro packaging with the orange and red color scheme along with the classic X-Men floating heads box below the Marvel Comics logo. Dan Nakayama provided the art in his usual stellar classic style. His ‘action feature’ is multiplying mutant, which checks out.
Over on the back is a quick bio that sums up his powers. Along the right side is the cross sell featuring the other characters in this wave. I’m doubly annoyed there was no Build-A-Figure with this Retro wave as I bought all of the figures without needing any extra incentive.
Likeness: Multiple Man uses the All-New All-Different Spider-Man 2099 mold, which is one of my favorites for in shape slender guys. MM doesn’t require an intricate level of sculpting in this costume, so it’s mostly reserved for the head sculpt. The open mask design is sculpted thankfully instead of just being handled via careful paint applications.
I like the neutral default expression. It’s fitting for a character who likes to consider his actions before rushing into battle. At least at this early stage of his career.
Scale: Multiple Manis listed at 5’11” so he should be looking up at X-Men leader Cyclops at 6’3″ while standing eye to eye with the 5’11” Storm.

Paint: On both levels, it seems like the ML team opted to make Jamie’s colors darker than necessary. The darker, kelly green isn’t as bright as the basic green as depicted in the comics. As usual, the team went for gold instead of a comic accurate yellow. Gold is rarely that shiny on a figure and always looks muted as it soaks into the plastic, especially one with a deeper base color like this hue of dark green.
Color hues aside, the paintwork is really well done with strong work on the circles, lines and strips of this outfit. This couldn’t have been an easy one to execute, but it’s impressively handled. The face paint work is also nicely done even if his lips seem a bit too pink.
Articulation: Multiple Man has the usual articulation roll out karis can pretty much do anything from flying to projecting energy blasts and going toe to toe with Deviants. That said, his articulation scheme needs to have the kind of poseability to allow him to pull off a variety of fighting movements.
His skirt limits some of his leg movement and he couldn’t get the more modern butterfly shoulder joint thanks to the chest design. That’s not a complaint as the aesthetics of his costume is more important in this instance.
Multiple Man has:

Accessories: Multiple Man has some obvious accessory options with various expressions or even a soft goods trench coat. He didn’t rock that look too often in this costume though, so its absence is fine.
He does have another portrait of an intense teeth-gritted head sculpt. If he can only have two, a calm and intense option makes sense. I would point out that the first Multiple Man figure had two extra head sculpts so another option was possible.
Additionally, he comes with a separate set of open, grabbing hands.
Worth it? Amazon still has Multiple Man available for a great price as he’s up for $15 instead of the usual $25. That’s a very solid deal for a figure that doesn’t have a lot of major sculpting requirements and a bunch of accessories.

This is a pretty basic figure of a character that just needed an easy and relatively simple means of army building.
