Nobody 2 review (2025)
Nobody 2 is the kind of action movie that delivers exactly everything it promises. There are no illusions it’s some high-brow film — it’s an intense action experience with an occasional winking nod to the camera that indicates everyone involved is in on the gag — and the fun.
Nobody 2’s 2021 predecessor was a welcome surprise from the myriad of wannabe John Wick clones. The action in Nobody certainly had some John Wick DNA since it was written by Wick franchise screenwriter Derek Kolstad. To illustrate a clear line from the Keanu Reeves’ adventures, Kolstad added a dark comedy element to Bob Odenkirk’s deadly assassin chronicles.
Hutch Mansell (Odenkirk) was a low-key family man with a loving wife, Becca (Connie Nielsen) and children, Brady (Gage Munroe) and Sammy (Paisley Cadorath). A random home invasion put Hutch on the path with the Russian mafia, who came to realize he had a special set of skills that left them in shambles.
Nobody 2 finds Hutch back at his “old gig” taking on dangerous assignments to settle his debt with his former handler, The Barber (Colin Salmon). Director Timo Tjahjanto, taking over for Ilya Naishuller (Hardcore Henry), brings a similar flashy, playful style to the fight scenes. Hutch isn’t an untouchable hero, but he definitely dishes out better than he receives.
After his last assignment, that definitely didn’t go as smoothly as The Barber described, Hutch calls time out. He needs a break. Better yet, he needs a vacation. His timing is pretty solid as Becca was getting frustrated with his absences and coming home late while he’s working.
Like its predecessor, Nobody 2 isn’t burdened with Hutch keeping his actual profession a secret from Becca. She knows what he’s doing but is still getting annoyed with eating dinner alone after the children leave the dining room.

Hutch takes the family, including his father David (Christopher Lloyd), to Plummerville, the same tourist spot David once took Hutch and his brother, Harry (RZA) for their only family vacation. Hoping to be a better father to his family, Hutch is determined to make this trip memorable. Well, there’s various ways to check that box.
For Hutch, it’s getting into a fight at the arcade. In fairness, the other guys started it and had their beatdown coming after smacking Sammy. The fracas further puts Hutch on the radar of Sheriff Abel (Colin Hanks), who quickly sized him up as a problem to the real mover and shaker of the town, Wyatt Martin (John Ortiz), the owner of the tourist resort.
Nobody 2 navigates that difficult balancing act of having intense, serious action sequences while incorporating some more slapstick and comedic elements. The jokes and funny bits in the fights actually do land so it’s not a situation where the awful comedy is dragging down an otherwise solid film.
Despite his best efforts, trouble keeps following Hutch, who naturally has to defend himself and his family. That’s all good until Ledina (Sharon Stone) learns about the mess Hutch is causing to her drugs and weapons smuggling operations at Plummerville. Ledina forced Wyatt to assume his father’s debt, or she would kill off his family like she did his father.
Stone is a blast. She’s playing her main villain role as if she were heavily inspired by Miley Cyrus’ Flowers video.
Odenkirk’s performance isn’t a surprise in Nobody 2, but that doesn’t mean he’s not still an inspired casting choice to play an assassin. He gives Hutch so many layers from the calm, playful father to the fed-up and irritated assassin. Nielsen gets more to do this time beyond being the stabilizing presence Hutch needs to calm down from his hits. The rest of the ensemble is also solid with Hanks, Ortiz, RZA and Lloyd especially standing out.
Nobody 2 is a welcome action explosion with some well-timed and well-executed comedy thrown in the mix as well. This should certainly satisfy fans of the original installment and hopefully lead to a third chapter.
