Star Wars The Black Series SDCC Revenge of the Sith action figure review (2025)
When Hasbro revealed the SDCC Revenge of the Sith exclusive set featuring Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, I’m not sure if I’ve been more excited about a reveal this year.
I was very invested in the Black Series when it was first announced and loved the first wave. The second was solid, but the third one with its Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan was a major disappointment. I was so let down that I started backing off of Black Series purchases and started going the higher end import route like the Figuarts ROTS Anakin and Obi-Wan.
As Hasbro made drastic improvements in likeness and articulation, I started getting back into the Black Series line, but my collection really needed a better ROTS Anakin and Obi-Wan. Enter this SDCC Revenge of the Sith set. Since I wasn’t at San Diego Comic Con, I was on high stress to make sure I got one of the sets later on Hasbro Pulse. With that secured it was just a waiting game.
Let’s see if this SDCC Revenge of the Sith set was worth the yearslong wait or I should just learn not to deal in absolutes any more.
Packaging: Not surprisingly, Hasbro did it up for the SDCC Revenge of the Sith set. It has an outer sleeve with a foil image of Anakin vs. Obi-Wan against a matte black finish. You might want to wear gloves handling it as it can catch any oil or smear thanks to the finish. It’s a very nice outer sleeve.
When you remove it, you’ll see a very nice setup that almost raises the question if you need to bother unboxing it. This is a really cool MOC presentation as it has Obi-Wan and Anakin facing off.
The additional accessories are positioned to the side so as not to mess up the visual. More than any other Hasbro line, the Black Series team puts in great work with writing bios. This one is excellent in setting the stage for this final conflict of the Clone Wars.
Likeness: The SDCC Revenge of the Sith Anakin and Obi-Wan are completely overhauled from their initial figures. This was important as the original version had very weak likenesses with outfits that hung poorly on the figures.
I’ll give Hasbro’s first prequel Obi-Wan some benefit of the doubt as he was one of the first Jedi figures in the Black Series line. Still, the likeness to Ewan McGregor was weak.
Clearly, Hasbro has made some major strides on actor likenesses in 2025 compared to 2003 so as expected, the likeness is much stronger. Not only is it the best ROTS-era Obi-Wan sculpt Hasbro has done, but it might be the best McGregor head sculpt period.
The base head sculpt has his hair disheveled as it appeared during the final stretch of the fight. Unlike Anakin, he’s keeping his cool and that’s reflected nicely with the sculpt.
Hasbro has made more Hayden Christensen likenesses based on his prequel look thanks to the Ahsoka series and a 2019 Archive release with a new head sculpt.
This is by far the strongest Christensen likeness. The default sculpt features an intense Anakin as the battle draws. I’m appreciative that Hasbro didn’t go with an open mouth yelling sculpt here.
With the early ROTS looks, Hasbro basically made the Jedi tunics a one-piece and sculpted layered depth onto it.
Now, the separate components are individually sculpted making for a far more natural flow to the inner and outer tunics. The pleating of the skirt piece hangs more naturally and just overall both outfits look great.
Scale: Anakin is noticeably taller than Obi-Wan Kenobi and should be about eye to eye with Mace Windu. He absolutely should and is taller than his padawan Ahsoka. Obi-Wan is around the same height as Commander Cody with his helmet on.

Paint: Both figures’ paint jobs are solid and very clean. Perhaps too clean. I get the intent from the Black Series team of having the option to use these versions as standard Revenge of the Sith figures.
Considering this SDCC Revenge of the Sith set is based on their battle on Mustafar, their outfits — specifically Obi-Wan’s could have been a bit dingier. In fairness, some of the ash and grimy appearance on Obi-Wan’s outfit can somewhat be accomplished by darker lighting or just dumping him in a muddy puddle. Your choice.
The shading around Anakin’s yellow Sith-corrupted eyes is really well done as his emotions are clearly overtaking him.
Smaller details like the capsules on their belts are individually painted as well.
Articulation: Like the Duel of the Fates Darth Maul, Anakin and Obi-Wan’s articulation have been totally upgraded allowing them to better re-enact their stances and moves from the film. It’s very cool to be able to maneuver them to hit the twirling the lightsaber behind their back pose.
The hip range is also solid allowing them to do a straight kick as well. The enhanced articulation is great in theory, but it is so satisfying being able to handle these figures and find they can really strike all of the major poses.
The SDCC Revenge of the Sith Anakin and Obi-Wan have:
-
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- butterfly shoulders (Darth Maul and Obi-Wan only)
- elbow (with swivel)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- hips
- thighs
- knees (double jointed)
- ankles
Accessories: To drive home the premium aspect of this set, both of the SDCC Revenge of the Sith Anakin and Obi-Wan figures have far more accessories than the usual Black Series offering.
Anakin has a neutral head sculpt for his pre-Sith influenced appearance.
Obi-Wan also has an early, less distressed Revenge of the Sith head sculpt.
Both the SDCC Revenge of the Sith Anakin and Anakin have Force push left hands.
In a first for the line, Hasbro gave both lightsaber motion blurs of various lengths — short, mid-sized and long.
That’s a pretty cool addition and one that can be utilized with various lightsabers. The smaller ones are easier to keep lifted without some wilting due to their heft.
There is also a clash effect that can be affixed to either lightsaber to indicate when they strike against each other.
The other major aspect of this set that helps to justify the special Comic Con price point is the inclusion of the levitation platform, which Obi-Wan used during the final act of their battle.
It’s long enough for both Jedi to stand on. SDCC Anakin has the panning droid he used to hover and balance on before getting to the platform.
The detailing on both is solid with articulated legs for the droid.
Obi-Wan’s platform has grating, weathering on the paint details as well as what looks like some molten leaking onto it. The platform controller is also along the side. I wonder if Hasbro could have added a light blue shading around the sides of the platform and the droid to simulate the deflection shields for the lava. Or if that kind of paint effect was even possible?
To really plus up the presentation, there is a large lava trail base to suspend the droid and platform on. They’re cast in a vibrant red, orange and yellow to really sell the hazardous conditions amongst the lava in Mustafar.
Finally, there are eight pegs for the feet that you can position along the platform and panning droid. These allow for some creativity in how you display the figures.
Worth it? This one is totally dependent on the collector. The SDCC Revenge of the Sith set went for $110 on Pulse but is now going for at least double. Two figures are normally $50. Are the platform, droid and lava really worth another $50? That’s a tough question.
For me it was a no-brainer as I’ve wanted an upgraded Anakin and Obi-Wan from Hasbro for over a decade now. There are at least options for collectors who missed the SDCC Revenge of the Sith set.
Rating: 10 out of 10
This SDCC Revenge of the Sith set delivers what I’ve been waiting on with an updated Anakin and Obi-Wan showcasing one of the franchise’s best duels with some excellent diorama pieces. This is a definite contender for Figure/Set of the Year.
Where to get it? The SDCC Revenge of the Sith set is sold out at Hasbro Pulse, but you can still get the updated Anakin and Obi-Wan figures at my affiliates.
