A major frustration is learning a stellar title like Green Arrow is being cancelled. This creative team has crafted one of the best runs of the character truly capturing a modern day take on the 70s Denny O’Neal version of Oliver Queen. Need another example of why this book has been so strong? Check out this issue, which shows Green Arrow and some of his supporting cast at their best.

While Green Arrow deals with another victim of the Crimson Archer, Arsenal and Lian try to track down some leads on Crimson Archer himself. Writer Chris Condon has some a tremendous sense on the characters, their viewpoints and what drives them. And his Green Arrow has a sense of humor in addition to all of his righteous indignation.

Arsenal gets a tremendously heartfelt moment with a junkie who’s struggling trying to keep her life together. Instead of leading with his fists, Roy leads with his heart. It’s a great scene in that it shows heroes can do so much more by not fighting. Green Arrow also has some terrific banter with Detective Benitez, who’s far more than an amazed police officer at Arrow’s prowess. She’s a legit partner in crime fighting and her investigation leads to some fascinating reveals.

Montos’ artwork is so well designed with layouts that feel like watching a movie play out. He’s got a fantastic style that works so well with a street-level crime fighter. Adriano Lucas’ colors are solid as usual and Buddy Beaudoin’s signature non-traditional dialogue arrangements keeps something so simple as captions and sound effects engaging.

Green Arrow was too quiet a hit for DC, which is one of the year’s biggest disappointments on the comic book front. There’s not much time left to take it in, but this will remain one of the highlights of the 2025 rollout of DC Comics.
