DC Comics reviews 9/24/25 – Absolute Wonder Woman 12, JLU 11
Green Lantern 27
It was hard not to read the penultimate chapter of the Starbreaker Supremacy and not have that same level of excitement the arose checking out Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night. Writer Jeremy Adams (with Green Lantern Corps co-author Morgan Hampton) has crafted one of those special Green Lantern self-contained events that should be fondly remembered for many years to come.
Adams gets how to write all of the characters. With this massive ensemble even with a few more additions like Superboy, Odyssey and Silver Scarab, the cast never feels so overwhelming that the story suffers. If anything, it makes this arc feel justifiably important.
While Hal Jordan and most of the prime Green Lanterns try and get to Oa before the Sun-Eaters, John Stewart is on Oa making a desperate plan to create an army capable of staving off the cosmic vampires. John doesn’t have many answers — but one could be found in the Oan prison and the other could be inside of him. But what will be the full cost of that decision?
Xermãnico returns as artist, which was welcome as his level of detail, action and expressive characters has quietly (?) taken this series to another level. Colorist Romulo Fajardo Jr. doesn’t have a lot of lantern constructs to light up this issue, but the coloring on this series remains exemplary. Letterer Dave Sharpe is always so precise with his dialogue layouts and the sound effect fonts add so much to the presentation.
Small note and something DC absolutely should adapt for other crossovers. The first page provides a summary of the storyline with a rollout of the issues comprised in the arc with this issue highlighted as a “You Are Here” indicator. It’s a small touch, but helpful for readers who want to go back to the earlier chapters of the story.
Adams, Xermãnico, Fajardo Jr. and Sharpe are telling a fantastic story with a stellar setup for what should be a memorable final act. Even when this threat is neutralized, a new one is already starting to emerge. Green Lantern is just an outstanding superhero comic and one of the best reads each month.
