Peacemaker — Another Rick Up My Sleeve review S2 E3
Another Rick Up My Sleeve continued to push the very compelling main arc with Chris fully embracing the other dimension.
Maybe the most intriguing element of this storyline is there’s very little reason for Chris to leave the world where everything he’s ever wanted is a reality. If there were one thing it’d be his friends, but can they compete with a world where is father is a loving, caring hero, his brother cares deeply for him and Chris has a legit shot at a future with Harcourt Emilia?
Another Rick also benefitted from a lack of over-the-top sophomoric dialogue, nudity for the sake of nudity and an action sequence that didn’t relish in the lack of restraints.
Keith wakes Chris up, concerned that he might be back on his pills again. While for Chris this world is a paradise, his doppelgänger couldn’t appreciate what he had by comparison.
Screenwriter James Gunn raises an interesting question in Another Rick: would doppelgänger Chris have been more comfortable in Chris’ world, which would provide him plenty of reasons to spiral out? And given this chance to embrace a better life will Chris be able to fully embrace it or will he eventually come to prefer his familiar dysfunctional world?
Keith being around does make this question far more challenging. It’s easy to see how regular Chris would have fared better with his brother still alive and in his life.
Emilia agrees to catch up with him, so Chris checks out the wardrobe closet, which he tells Keith looks like a Kardashian closet. Keith has no clue who the Kardashians are to prove this alternate world is so much better. And Chris has a Peace-Cycle here too!
En route to Emilia’s office at ARGUS, Chris is stunned by the adoration of passersby — a big difference from the reception he gets on his world.
At ARGUS, Chris is shocked to see another Rick, this one of course isn’t the one he killed in Corto Maltese. Another Rick reveals a pretty significant bombshell — Rick and Harcourt were sleeping around.
The last time was right before he was summoned off to Corto Maltese. This provides some major context for Harcourt’s reluctance to fully accept Chris since he was the man who killed her friend with benefits.
The one letdown in Another Rick was this world’s Rick is a bit of a doofus, who clownishly watches Chris as he talks with Emilia. She cracks on Chris for calling her by her last name, another clear distinction between the two women.

This world’s Emilia is happy, enjoying things like a stroll in the park, hot dogs and a cute puppy. She doesn’t want Chris to hurt her again by sleeping around on her — another suggestion that doppelgänger Chris was unknowingly self-sabotaging his life. As Chris takes this all in, a terrorist group, the Sons of Liberty, strike. Maybe a little sooner than they anticipated as one trips and detonated one of the bombs they planned to place.
Even without his gear, Chris is able to violently, but not too ridiculously so, take out the SOL and disarm the bomb with an assist from Captain Triumph. Chris really does seem to mean it when he says, “Best dimension ever” and it’s hard to blame him.
Back on the standard Earth, Economos is getting grief from Sasha and Langston for not warning the strike team about Eagly. Langston’s bird blindness still comes off like a lame and silly joke. To deal with Eagly, Sasha called in an eagle hunter Red St. Wild (Michael Rooker).
Rooker always seems to have a blast when he’s working on a Gunn production and his presence in Another Rick made for a very fun cameo. Just in case Economos has any issues, he can bring them up with his new partner, Judomaster.
As the reinforced ARGUS squad prepares to take down Chris and his interdimensional portal, an oblivious Chris returns home. Will he regret leaving his little slice of paradise?
Another Rick Up My Sleeve really doubled down on Chris’ dilemma as the other world is making a strong case for him to stay and never look back.
