WWE Monday Night War Greatest Hits Diamond Dallas Page review (2024)
Diamond Dallas Page was in one of the hardest to find waves of the Walmart exclusive Monday Night War waves. That prompted Mattel to quickly re-release him under a Greatest Hits banner. It was still exclusive to Walmart and tough to find, but the effort was appreciated.
This version features DDP in his early WCW superstar attire after he ditched the garishly colored neon pink and green outfits for black with some color accents. That proved to be the right move and his early battle with The Outsiders further propelled him to the main event ranks.
Mattel previously released a figure commemorating this era way back in its Legends line and again in Elite 36. He was overdue for an updated figure both in terms of the likeness and articulation.
Paired with the MNW jeans figure, we’re an Ultimate Edition and Jersey Triad era of Diamond Dallas Page away from having all of his significant looks in figure form. Let’s see if this version warrants a self-high-five or if it’s barely a whisper instead of a Bang!
Packaging: I really like the setup for the Monday Night Wars packaging with the shout out to WCW Nitro flair with the grated paneling. Let Monday Night RAW have all its other accolades. This is about as close to a Best of WCW line we’re going to see from Mattel thanks to the WWE overlords of history.
What’s cool about this version of Diamond Dallas Page is Mattel actually took the time to distinguish this artwork from the other MNW figure. That one featured a smiling DDP while this one has him yelling “Bang!” On the bottom is the MNW logo and a tag for this wave’s Build A Figure, Gorilla Monsoon. The sides show a larger version of the Diamond Dallas Page artwork with a red WCW above him. That’s a little off since the WCW logo on the front shows it with an orange and yellow gradient while WWE is in red.
Turning to the back, we get a serious reference photo of Diamond Dallas Page ready for action. I’m digging how the MNW bios talk about a specific match from Nitro (or RAW).
Likeness: With the new and improved digital face printing tech, this version of Diamond Dallas Page looks so much better.
The little details on his face from the wrinkles in his forehead, the crow’s feet and overall tighter implementation of his facial hair make for a vastly superior figure.
This is definitely one of those cases where I won’t have much use for the original figure now. Well, except for the vest since that’s missing from this figure.
I’m not sure if the muscular torso is the best choice for Page, but I can’t immediately think of a better option. It’s one of those deals where they still need to crank out some more original bodies to better match up with the physiques of wrestlers who didn’t all feel the pressure to look like John Cena, Batista or Randy Orton.
Mattel did include the two elbow pads for both arms. DDP has the taller boots to better account for his height.
Scale: At 6’5″, Diamond Dallas Page typically was taller than most of his opponents save for most of the nWo. He was taller than his longtime Nitro ally, the 6’3″ Lex Luger, as well as his frequent sparring partner, the 6’1″ Macho Man Randy Savage. He will still be looking up at the 6’7″ Scott Hall and Hollywood Hogan.
The figure doesn’t have the scaling down as well as I’d like. I’m not sure if it’s the boots, which should be shorter than the norm or if his legs need to be longer.

Paint: Interestingly, Mattel gave this version of DDP a darker shade of blonde than the jeans version. It’s more of a dirty blonde, but Mattel still wasn’t able to properly paint the sides of his hair the same shade of brown used for his facial hair.
He does have the Star of David tattoo on his right pectoral. Mattel continued the excellent work on his arm tattoos with nice and sharp detailing.
His jeans have a cool washed tone to them so they’re not just one, boring shade of light blue.
I get on Jazwares with their AEW line for this so it’s only fair to call out Mattel for having a weird mix of the torso colors for DDP as the ab section is a tanner, yellowed section that doesn’t match with the rest of the body.
Articulation: DDP was a pretty elite wrestler in WCW as he could convincingly wrestle against the technical wrestlers like Chris Jericho or Curt Hennig while brawling against Macho Man and The Outsiders.
Even without the Ultimate Edition’s butterfly shoulders articulation, you can pull off most of Diamond Dallas Page’s moves from the You won’t have any problems with most of DDP’s moves like the discus clothesline, diving clothesline, his inverted atomic drop, gutwrench belly to belly suplex, tilt a whirl side slam, the swinging neck breaker, the diamond dream, diamond clash and the diamond bomb.
Diamond Dallas Page has:
- neck
- shoulders
- elbows (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- waist
- hips
- thighs
- knees
- ankles
You will be able to hit several variations of the Diamond Cutter. Thanks to the double-jointed elbows, he can actually sink in the Diamond Cutter really well.
Accessories: DDP has all of his essential accessories for this time period. Mostly.
His default hands are the spread diamond cutter pose. Mattel gave him an additional set of clutching hands and fists.
Diamond Dallas Page also gets his semi-signature rib tape. This is a carryover from another figure, but it’s definitely something that became a visual trademark like Cowboy Bob Orton’s cast.
Finally, he gets the head of Shawn Michaels during his stint as WWF Commissioner. These Wal-Mart BAFs have been a pain to complete so all the best in successfully building him.
Worth it? WWE figures go for $19.99 at Wal-Mart, but I always struggle to track them down in my area. My pal David Thanos was able to find Diamond Dallas Page at Walmart and sent him my way.
Rating: 9 out of 10
Besides the scale and the torso color mistake, I’m pretty happy with this version of DDP. He’s pretty close to being the definitive DDP, but I can see the Ultimate Edition one being the best take of Page.
Where to get it? Diamond Dallas Page was a Walmart exclusive, but you can get this figure over on Amazon albeit for a higher price.
