Batman 3 is a solid, if not spectacular installment of Batman’s adventures.

Tensions are riding high as Dr. Zeller is on the TV talk show circuit explaining her new technology that enables people to overcome their greatest fears. It’s probably not a good situation for Doc Zeller to have Hugo Strange arguing that this could be problematic.

Elsewhere, a young boy recorded Ra’s Al Ghul planting evidence to implicate Batman in a police officer’s death. That will allow Ra’s to go further with his efforts to ensure Batman is no longer a threat to his schemes. This recording could damage all of his plans and potentially open up an avenue for writer Matt Fraction to remove Ra’s from the GCPD Commissioner role.

Also in Batman 3, Batman deals with a renewed threat from The Riddler, who had been operating just fine on the side of the angels until something sparked a regression to his bad habits.

Artist Jorge Jimenez delivers his usual high-quality art giving all of the characters plenty of personality in their expressions and posture. Ra’s looks menacing in every panel while Bernard has plenty of attitude while confronting Bruce about Tim’s injuries. This wasn’t a heavy action installment, but Jimenez makes even casual conversations visually engaging. Colorist Tomey Morey and letterer Clayton Cowles (with some assists from Jimenez) also do their part to ensure Batman 3 is very aesthetically pleasing.

Batman 3 does show the difficulties of having a universe-wide crossover and 10+ Batman titles as there’s no reference to the events playing out in DC KO, but this was a solid installment. If this is the floor for this title, Batman fans should feel pretty confident this title is in the right hands.
