DC Comics reviews 11/26/25 – Absolute Batman 14, DC KO 2
Absolute Wonder Woman 14
It’s always welcome when a writer is confident in their abilities to tell a good story without dragging it out for eight or nine issues. Kelly Thompson only needed two to tell the story of The Price as Diana fights against a chaos inverse of her.
What’s really clever with this issue is Thompson shows that Diana doesn’t always have to punch the hardest to win a fight. In this case, she just needs to use her intelligence — better yet, realize that sometimes the best plans are the ones that come from her allies.
That leads to a meeting with Gaia to discuss how Diana is the balance for a world tainted by so much darkness. This is a brilliant framing of Absolute Wonder Woman and her overall mission. Thompson also does a partial introduction to the Absolute version of Zatanna, who already seems very different from the standard Earth.
Artist Matias Bergara has such a fun style that complements Absolute Wonder Woman beautifully. So far, DC has prioritized excellent artists coming over to Absolute Wonder Woman when regular artist Hayden Sherman is otherwise occupied. Bergara’s pages look phenomenal from the action sequence with the Diana inverse and her discussion with Gaia following a horrific descent to her realm.
Colorist Jordie Bellaire does fantastic work specifically with Zatanna, who is more of a ghost than a person. Bellaire is a master at blending colors and coming up with dazzling combinations. Letterer Becca Carey, likewise, brings a wow factor to the dialogue and sound effects in play.
Thompson ends this issue with a tease for one of the most anticipated encounters in the Absolute Universe as Steve Trevor gives her some insight on Batman and Superman. Looks like Wonder Woman will be making a trip to Gotham. That should be good, but The Price was exactly how long it needed to be to tell an engaging and fun story.
