Marvel Legends Gamerverse Gargantos review (2025)

Gargantos (aka Shuma Gorath) definitely seemed like a longshot to get a Marvel Legends figure, but the ML team has been pulling out wish list items for most of 2025. Aided by a surge in Marvel vs Capcom popularity, Hasbro seized the opportunity to crank out some of the more popular characters from the game series over the last two years.

Due to licensing reasons, Hasbro had to list the comic book character Shuma Gorath as Gargantos, but there’s no mistaking this very distinct character and overall oddity who’s arguably more famous from the game than any comic book arc.

Let’s see if Gargantos ends up being another big win for this MVC-inspired Gamerverse wave or if it needs to get thrown back to another dimension.

Packaging: The Gameverse line has a dynamic packaging thanks to its purplish-blue color scheme, the Gameerverse logo in the top center (and package top) and big splashy image of Gargantos and its MVC logo on the front.

Both sides feature the character select screen art from Marvel Super-Heroes for Gargantos with a smaller image of the figure and its accessory.

Over on the back is an image of the game’s training mode backdrop with Gamerverse Gargantos standing victorious over the fallen Silver Samurai, who’s been seeing the lights on several Gamerverse packages. This was a flawless victory for his team as Wolverine and Juggernaut didn’t take any damage as well.

The one-sentence bio does a decent job of summarizing Gargantos although there’s no mention of any comic book connection to say its rival Doctor Strange.

Likeness: Gargantos is basically an eyeball and tentacles. The body of the figure is the eyeball with ports for the six tentacles. Three have curled edges while the remainder are flat.

Another cool aspect of the main body is it has flaps and some smaller tentacles just starting to form.

The sculpt has a good amount of wrinkles and folds in the tentacles to convey a skin-like appearance. For the tentacles, the sculpt includes segments like soft plating.

Easily the highlight of the sculpt is the eyeball, which has all kinds of fun details like veins and a semi-translucent plastic to give it a wet look.

Scale: Gargantos doesn’t have a consistent height as it can be regular height or as big as a skyscraper. In the arcade games, Gargantos hunched down so it was shorter than Iron Man, Magneto and Dr. Doom. Thanks to the poseable tentacles, Gargantos can be relatively shorter, but nowhere near the smaller size from the game.

Paint: Gamerverse Gargantos doesn’t have a ton of paint apps with most of its body being a green hue. A wash with a darker green or black definitely would have been nice, but the one shade doesn’t make it look cheap either.

There is a wash in the main body, but that doesn’t carry over to the tentacles.

Articulation: In terms of the usual articulation, Gargantos breaks all kinds of traditions. It’s a body with six tentacles. There are no neck and waist articulation or any standard double-jointed limbs.

The Marvel Legends engineers really got clever implementing the articulation as all of the tentacles are bendable allowing for some creative posing possibilities with Gargantos. The eyeball can be fiddled with as well as it rotates some and can be closed tighter to give its dismissive side eye.

It can hold poses fairly well, but some more dynamic moves as found in the game will be tricky to pull off. You can pose Gargantos in its victory stance, just make sure to rotate the tentacle sockets to keep a stable base.

It would have been nice to support Gargantos grabbing someone, but he’s too large for a standard size figure to hold the weight.

Gamerverse Gargantos has:

Accessories: Gargantos is a shapeshifter and in the game can turn its body into a funnel-like shape or a big glob.

Additionally, one of its projectile attacks is a ring of eyeballs. In lieu of a full-on eye ring, Hasbro included one eyeball. It’s got spikes all around it and has an impressive level of detail. While it’s a fun accessory, it needed a stand to best be posed as a projectile.

This doesn’t feel like a situation where Hasbro held back essential accessories as Gargantos’ other abilities would be hard to pull off in figure form.

Worth it?  Gamerverse Gargantos is a very solid figure with a unique one-off design (barring repaints) with bendable tentacles so his price point of $70 doesn’t seem outrageous.

Ironically, the ML team making Gargantos bigger hinders some of the accessory options to simulate the game moves, but in all other regards this figure was a really fun surprise.
