GI Joe Classified Series Retro Flint (2025)

Retro Flint was not a character that was essential when I stated getting into the G.I. Joe Classified Series, but as Hasbro started taking the line down more of a 6″ adaptation of the Real American Hero line, he quickly became a priority.

After the dramatic upgrades with figures like Duke and Scarlett, I was very excited to see how Retro Flint would turn out. With the initial reveal I was not disappointed, and he has been one of my most anticipated figures for 2025.

Let’s see if the Joes’ warrant officer will be one of my favorite figures of the year or if he’ll need to go sit in the Pyramid of Darkness in shame.

Packaging: Retro Flint gets the standard retro packaging with the super thick card back. This has by far been the most criticized packaging of any Retro or standard Classified Series figure as it has what looks like the most garish AI “art.” It’s awful and definitely the worst package art I’ve seen since the McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Wildcat, which at least had the decency to be on the back.

The bubble does show off the figure and the accessories well. Unfortunately, the crappy artwork is used for the file card as well. Hasbro clearly took the criticism to heart and rolled out a package art variant. It’s not much better as now it looks like raging Caveman Flint variant than the smooth dashing warrant officer.

Likeness: Retro Flint is a significant upgrade from the previously released CS Flint, which I still contend was fine for a new era GI Joe style.  Flint reuses the Retro Duke torso and Retro Recondo arms since he had the higher rolled up sleeves. His gloves cuffs are a separately sculpted piece, which makes it look a lot better than trying to achieve that look properly with paint.

His double belt setup is done to more accurately capture the RAH design with an eagle buckle and a star surrounded by smaller stars. It’s also sculpted to retain the askew look for the draping belt. As expected, he’s got his shotgun shell harness connected to the higher belt. These look solid.

I can’t place the legs as they’ve got pouches on the front, don’t have the signature knee pads and are bunched up enough at the boots so they’re not short.

Retro Flint gets a new head sculpt. This one has more of the cocky persona described in the original file card. This is an improvement on the punch-drunk head sculpt, which ironically probably is a better fit for Lt. Falcon.

Regardless, this is just a placeholder until the SnowCAT Flint head sculpt arrives as that one looks perfect.

Scale: Retro Flint is a regular height Joe so he’s eye to eye with Duke, General Hawk, Stalker and other Joes. He’ll be looking up at Bazooka and the lanky, but taller Dusty. No need to worry as he is taller than Retro Lady Jaye.

Paint: Retro Flint’s paintjob leans closer to the RAH figure with a murky brown camo on his olive-green pants. I greatly prefer this look for him as it blends in nicely with the harness, belts and holster. There is some impressive detailing on the shotgun shells with black tips and gold bases.

He’s got a slight five o’clock shadow as well. I’m not a fan of the eyes painted oh so slightly like Flint is looking up. Like most figures they’d be better off painted looking straight ahead. There’s a stray random black paint mark on the forehead, but that was about it in terms of paint issues.

Articulation: Retro Flint gets the same high level of articulation we’ve come to expect from the Classified Series. Without the bulky tactical vest like the original CS release, Flint has no trouble hitting deep poses or crouches.

He’s a very fun figure to pose all around.

Accessories: Retro Flint gets a ton of accessories that really makes this feel like the ultimate Flint figure.

First is his backpack, which is perfectly translated from the RAH version with the flares, grenades and canteen. I always thought Flint had a useful backpack and tended to keep it on my RAH figure. This will be one of my CS figures that keeps the backpack on.

He’s also got an assortment of hands with a set of fists, an open left hand and a pointing right hand to yell “Yo Joe!”

Retro Flint also gets a more traditional pump action shotgun with green pant apps to break up all the black.

Next is his pistol, which was originally non-removable with the RAH figure. It fits in his holster with no trouble.

His beret is different from the first CS Flint, with a bit more of a lean to the right side to make for a more classic skewing take for Flint. Here’s what the old one looks like on this head sculpt.

Finally, he’s got a figure stand.

Worth It? Retro Flint prices fluctuate from $24.99 to the heinous $27.99 price point. For the CS line, that’s not as tough as some other brands, but now it’s a tougher challenge of getting good value for the price point.

Retro Flint is much more of the classic look for my favorite Joe. This old school look is one of the best Joe designs and the CS team did it justice.
