Marvel Legends Ultimate Iron Man review (2025)
Ultimate Iron Man is the second member of The Ultimates to get made into figure form recently from Hasbro. The first was the surprisingly great u, which was one of my favorites from 2023. I barely read the Ultimates and have little interest in diving too deep into the Ultimate Universe, but based on the strength of that Cap figure, I decided to grab Ultimate Irom Man.
Let’s see if this latest Iron Man variant was worth adding to my armory or if I’m going to be happy cutting off my Ultimates collection with two figures.
Packaging: Ultimate Iron Man is part of the first wave of Marvel Legends celebrating iconic moments in Marvel history. It’s done in the retro style packaging designed like a comic book complete with the corner box, a large Ultimate Iron Man logo and background art featuring the interior first page of the issue.
In the corner is a comic style corner box featuring the figure. I really like the blue color scheme with black accents, which spotlights the gold Ultimate Iron Man logo. His title blurb is done in red.
Over on the back is the cross sell with the other figures in the wave and a better look at Ultimate Iron Man #1’s cover. The bio helps explain the background of Ultimate Iron Man in an easy way to understand the difference with him and his 616 counterpart.
Likeness: Ultimate Iron Man has a unique sculpt due to the armor not having easy elements that could have been carried over from other existing Iron Man figures. That’s a good thing as the sculpt does a fantastic job of capturing the unique design of the Ultimate armor.
The sculptor did an excellent job with that wide helmet and that distinct faceplate. That carries over to the wide shoulders and chest plate that kinda resembles the original design of Ultron in the 616 with the eyes and mouth.
He also has wide gauntlets with additional plating for what I assume is the repulsors. Ultimate Iron Man has a slimmer waist for a streamlined torso before expanding to more heavily armored thighs and legs — all of which have a tremendous amount of detailed paneling.
What’s wild is, this is one of my least favorite designs in the comic, but it makes for a really unique and fun figure.
Scale: Ultimate Iron Man is about the same height as Ultimate Captain America though he’s wider and bigger than Ultimate Cap.

Paint: While the Ultimate Iron Man armor is largely a gun metal grey, the design has a sneaky number of colors. Red is the secondary color and there’s a mix of gold and blue.
There are no issues with the paint work as it’s all applied very cleanly.
Articulation: Just about all the comic-book based Iron Man figures from Hasbro have had excellent articulation. This one doesn’t ruin the streak even with the bulkier design.
He benefits from a few articulation tweaks like the ball-jointed torso, which allows for smoother movement.
The larger boots provide a sturdy base for more dynamic poses as well.
Ultimate Iron Man has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso (ball)
- waist
- hip
- thigh
- knee (double-jointed)
- ankle
Accessories: Short of an un-helmeted head showing a Tony Stark head sculpt there really wasn’t a ton of extras that were missing.
Ultimate Iron Man has two additional sets of hands — repulsor spraying and grasping hands. They add some additional display options for Stark.
The last accessory is the gimmick of this wave — a mini-comic with a digital print of the Ultimate Iron Man #1 cover. It’s a fine enough accessory, but not nearly as useful as a Build-A-Figure piece.
Worth It? Ultimate Iron Man was originally $24.99 and he was easily worth that price. He has been on sale for months. I grabbed him for $13 and now he’s around $16. At that price, he’s one of the best value Marvel Legends figures this year.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
Much like Ultimate Captain America, Ultimate Iron Man is another pleasant surprise. This is a really nice figure and another unexpected Top 10 entry from the Ultimate Universe.
Where to Get It? Along with Miles Morales, Ultimate Iron Man was the fixture on the pegs and was clearanced out. The best way to get him now is through online retailers like Amazon.
