GI Joe Classified Series Wet Suit action figure review No. 179 (2025)

Wet Suit was part of my first four 1986 wave of Joes that I grabbed when I first spotted them on the pegs. He just had a cool look with his color scheme, and I liked the idea of giving Torpedo some underwater backup.

His role in the cartoon series and his friendly rivalry with Leatherneck also made me a big favorite and he wasn’t treated too shabbily in the comic book series either. The cover to Special Missions #1 was such a kick-tail instantly iconic look for the Joe SEALs. When Hasbro debuted his Classified Series figure, he instantly shot up near the top of my most anticipated list.

Let’s see if Wet Suit rises up to my expectations or if he sinks as one of 2025’s biggest Classified Series disappointments.

Packaging: Wet Suit has the usual packaging. He’s No. 179 in the line. It’s wild how quickly this line has expanded over the last few years. Even more so with how many figures of that nearly 200+ that I have in my collection.

The main artwork on the side features Wet Suit underwater ready for action. Over on the other side it’s the smaller version of the stats along with the QR Code to nowhere. On the back is a fun render of Wet-Suit exploring a wreckage site.

His skill sets make sense for his specialty. He’s got a 4 in environmental specialist: water, 3 in underwater combat and 2s in what seems to be scuba and underwater techniques? These last two actually weren’t on the Classified Series stat breakdowns. Hopefully this is a one-off as I enjoyed deciphering the Joes’ skills.

Likeness: Wet-Suit looks like he’s ready to out-grump Leatherneck. He’s got an awesome head sculpt full of intensity and a bit of a bad attitude. Torpedo is the fun-loving SEAL while Wet-Suit is the cranky one.

It’s nice to get him with a removable helmet making it easier to re-enact moments from the cartoon.His original Real American Hero figure had a great design. The CS team made the wise call that he didn’t need some glammed-up makeover as much as a six-inch translation of that look.

Everything is dialed in from that original figure from the chest harness with black pouches, the bicep wraps and pouches to the thigh straps and pouches. Even the smaller details like the zipper of his suit are intact.

He’s got a watch on his left wrist and a cord on his right wrist.

Scale: Wet-Suit has a taller mold making him one of the tallest Joes in the non-Roadblock/Gung-Ho/Sgt. Slaughter category. Ideally, he should just be a standard size and maybe even a little shorter than his buddy Leatherneck who definitely could have used a Bazooka style build.

Paint: The CS team has toned down some of the brighter RAH color schemes. They did so with Wet Suit as well, but his color palette is just naturally vibrant with the bright orange so it still stands out.

As is the norm, Wet-Suit’s paint job is very clean right down to the red flying shark on his chest. The CS team opted to raise the white middle portion further, which aesthetically makes sense to carry that white section all the way to the zipper. Even with such a large white section, the paint is solid without noticeable bleed through of the muted teal underneath.

His outfit matches up to the RAH figure with the light grey straps and black pouches. The paintwork on his face and hair is just as solid.

Articulation: Much like Torpedo, Wet Suit needs fluid articulation for a swimmer who’s also battling Cobra Eels underwater. That doesn’t mean he’s worthless on the ground as he’s just as capable a fighter on land.

Wet Suit sports the usual stellar level of articulation allowing him to strike some fun poses whether battling Eels or BATs.

Accessories: Wet Suit gets a ton of useful accessories — most of them being an updated version of his RAH loadout.

First, he gets his underwater sea sled. Naturally it’s bigger and Classified Series scaled up with more detail with some black paint to add to the base orange color.

He also has his SCUBA tanks, again done like the RAH version, with the addition of some black paint and holes to plug in the CS bonus — his removable full-face diving mask/helmet with the integrated breathing rig setup. It’s got a row of three small lights to help Wet Suit what’s lurking deep below. The paint apps on it are great with the green goggle lining done precisely.

Another RAH carryover is his underwater searchlight. It’s much bigger now and allows Wet Suit to pan around to see what’s in his path easier. Keeping the pattern, it also has some black paint apps.

For the last bit of his gear, he’s got his own unique set of flippers with a single point in the middle, which have the light green and black color scheme.

The RAH figure didn’t come with any weapons, so he was useless when battling Eels on his own until he took their gear. For the CS line, he carries his own weapons. First is a small knife that’s different from the commonplace ones. It’s got a cool, ribbed handle for a better grip.

Finally, he’s got what looks like a spp-1 underwater pistol. It’s got nice detail and can fit in his holster on his right leg.

Worth It? Wet Suit was $27.99, the new price for the CS line. Of the various lines jumping to this new price, at least the CS team is trying to justify the increase with new sculpts and a ton of new accessories. Some places have him for the older $25, which is when he becomes a great deal.

Wet Suit gets a tremendous figure with all kinds of fun accessories that make him one of the standouts for the line.
