Masters Of The Universe King Randor review (2024) – New Eternia
King Randor tends to be a background character in Masters of the Universe with all the attention paid to his son.
Still, he’s an essential figure in any MOTU collection. Mattel decided since he was on deck to make one that would fit in with the stellar New Eternia subline.
Let’s see if this Randor is worthy of the throne or simply a pretender.
Packaging: The Masterverse line is the reigning champ when it comes to standard figure presentation. In this case, the smaller window to show the figure is used in a smart manner to help tell the story on the packaging highlighted by the fantastic artwork from Simon Eckert.
King Randor is battling some reptilian creatures to aid his future wife, Captain Glenn, as her ship crashed on Eternia. This is clearly from some time ago as his beard is still fully brown. That image wraps around to one side while the other side features the showcase image of King Randor with his bald head wielding his sword and staff with the larger portrait showing him wearing the crown.
On the back, King Randor is on a mountaintop with Zoar flying in the background. There are also three images of Randor in various states with his gear. His bio explains Randor’s role in this New Eternia timeline.
Likeness: The New Eternia figures have been superb in mixing the classic vintage looks while incorporating new design elements. King Randor’s design is really nicely done. His head sculpt is stern and heroic.
Randor’s chest armor is loaded with ornate detail and intricate patterns. This looks like the kind of armor befitting a king. Additionally, King Randor has a soft goods blue cape, which is attached with a clasp around his shoulders.
In lieu of a shield, Randor has arm harness armor on his left arm with a prominent crest at the pauldron. It’s really well done. He’s got a belt with a matching crest in the center as well as shin armor. If you’re so inclined, you can remove all of the armor elements.
Scale: New Eternia King Randor is just a smidge taller than the average character like Man-At-Arms and Mekaneck.
While he’s the king, Randor doesn’t need to tower over everyone else.

Paint: You can take a New Eternia figures’ paintjob to the bank. They rarely have any issues and feature very clean detailed paint applications.
Most of the paint is done through the plastic being molded in that color, but there are some details like the blue gems along the armor.
Articulation: Similar to the other figures in the Masterverse line, New Eternia King Randor has 30 points of articulation.
That allows him to hit plenty of sword swings and staff strikes while battling against the evil forces on New Eternia.
His range of motion is somewhat limited thanks to the chest armor, but Randor has enough for reasonable fighting stances.
King Randor has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- waist
- hip
- thigh
- knee (double-jointed)
- ankle
Accessories: New Eternia King Randor has a solid number of extras.
He comes with a broad sword with a detailed hilt in the same shape of his crest on his armor and belt. You can have him hold this helmet if you want to go with the bald look.
Additionally, Randor has a staff with its own bit of personalization with a crown atop the flange that also has a blue gem in the center.
To mix up his look, he gets an alternate battle crown with a blue gem in its center.
This is the more streamlined crown though it does look very cool with a bunch of detail.
Another cool feature is the staff has a hole to plug the sword into so Randor can go full-on Darth Maul.
Worth it? There isn’t a better deal for figures than the Masterverse New Eternia line if you can find them for $9.99. The standard price for the figures is $24.99, which is still a good price point for these amazing figures.
Rating: 9.5 out of 10
King Randor gets a really strong New Eternia upgrade. His armor is somewhat limiting, but he’s the king and the extra protection is understandable.
Where to Get It? He is normally found at Target, but you can also grab New Eternia King Randor from Amazon.
