Space Ghost vol 2 8 review – Dynamite Entertainment
Space Ghost vol 2 8 concludes Legacy of Destruction, a rare two-part story for the series, but it was well warranted for this emotional story.
Last issue, Space Ghost battled a new foe with the immeasurably powerful Antimatter Man who did what few opponents have been able to accomplish — he left Space Ghost badly wounded and seemingly unable to stop him.
What Dax, Jan and Jace haven’t realized is this new foe who’s taken control of Contra Industries Tower is actually Jan and Jace’s grandfather, Dr. Contra. In the fray from last issue, Dr. Contra got caught in a lab accident and became the powerful villain they’re trying desperately to defeat.
Writer David Pepose ensures it won’t be easy as The Antimatter Man is able to corrupt the Contra guards and make them nightmarish extensions of himself. Although he was unprepared for the Antimatter Man’s initial attack, Space Ghost vol 2 8 shows Space Ghost is ready for a rematch. This time, he might have a little something to help even the odds.
While the characters from Space Ghost’s lore have always had fun designs, it wasn’t until the debut of an alternate suit for the main protagonist in Space Ghost vol 2 8 that it set in again how well-suited this license is for a high-end action figure line. If this series can’t re-energize the Space Ghost fanbase to support an ongoing figure line very little could make that a reality.

Artist Jonathan Lau unleashes some dramatic action moments with Space Ghost tangling with Antimatter Man’s guards in an explosive conflict building up to the big showdown with his new rival. Beyond the intense fisticuffs, which Lau showcases expertly in Space Ghost vol 2 8 with stellar layouts, he goes for more emotional beats with some striking panels.
Colorist Andrew Dalhouse does his usual sensational work with the color combinations but brings a little something extra with the shading effects for the Antimatter Man and his guards. It’s a haunting look that really leans into the overall tragic nature of Space Ghost vol 2 8. Letterer Taylor Esposito also does a fine job with the sound effects and the dual personality nature of the Antimatter Man.
Space Ghost vol 2 8 was another terrific installment for one of the most consistent reads on the stands going on two years now. The creative team continues to shine and with the added pathos of this emotional story, it feels like they have so many new angles and directions to take the title.
