Marvel Legends Marrow review (2025) BAF Nemesis wave
Marrow was brought on board to the X-Men during an all-too brief entertaining run by Joe Casey and Steven T. Seagle on X-Men and Uncanny X-Men. She was part of new era with fellow newbies Cecile Reyes and Maggot. This run didn’t last long, but Casey and Seagle made these new X-Men far more interesting than many of the dozens that would follow them.
As such, I’ve got a soft spot for this trio and was excited that Maggot’s Marvel Legends figure turned out so well. With Marrow next on deck, I hope Cecile isn’t far behind as well as this era of Cannonball, Storm, Rogue, etc.
Let’s see if there’s no bones about Marrow being a welcome addition to the Marvel Legends X-Men roster or if she’s better off left in the figure graveyard.
Packaging: The Build-A-Figure Nemesis wave features the mostly black with a prominent X-Men logo and a touch of orange yellow in the upper right. The artwork is from Leinil Francis Yu’s cover to Secret X-Men #1.
It’s cooler when the Marvel Legends team uses three different pictures for the package. The bio isn’t great as it touches on her association with the Morlocks, but not as a member of the X-Men.
Likeness: Marrow followed a similar X-Men career path as Rogue. She was an adversary and had a harsher look and when she joined up, she started to get a glam makeover.
Over the years since she’s had a few garish mutations, but her mostly classic look was the right way to go especially since this was her look when she was in the Marvel vs. Capcom video games.
The sculpt is surprisingly authentic to this era with her shorter hairstyle with a few strands falling over her face. Her head sculpt is very well done with an expression that works for many moods. It’s an ideal neutral expression as it could read like she’s thinking, annoyed or receiving orders.
She’s got the craggily bone structure under her bust and her knees. Credit the ML team for getting Marrow’s knee bone “pads” correct. They’re not the exact same shape and should look like bone protrusions that aren’t growing out of her evenly.
Marrow also has bones sticking out of her back. I really appreciate that the bones are sculpted as separate parts and not just one piece that plugged into her back. There’s also a separate spinal cord made up of smaller bone protrusions. The finer details of her costume like the smaller armor around her shoulders and hips are neatly executed.
Scale: Marrow is 5’8″ so she should be shorter than the 5’9″ Nightcrawler and 6’1″ Cyclops. She should be taller than the 5’3″ Wolverine.
Paint: Marrow has a solid paint job. Her pinker skin tone is accurately reflected on the figure though her hair should be more red/hot pink than light brown.
The details like the gold along her shoulders and hips has enough sheen to make it pop. Her bone protrusions have a dirty brown wash to make them look like bones instead of toys.
Blue and green are colors that can blend into each other, but the hues used for Marrow contrast nicely. Her head sculpt is sharply painted as well specifically around the eye area. This is an A+ paintjob from the ML team.
Articulation: Marrow largely uses the Shriek mold with new sculpted parts. That assures she’s got nearly the top-of-the-line female mold in play for Marvel Legends. The new Black Widow mold has the best, but for Marrow this mold is also a strong choice.
She’s a Morlock fighter and tends to fight up close and personal where she can batter down an opponent with her bone shards. She’s able to hit all kinds of striking and slashing poses.
Marrow has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- butterfly shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- hip
- thigh
- knee (double-jointed)
- ankle
Accessories: Marrow gets the accessories she absolutely needed although an extreme yelling portrait would have been welcome also.
She gets a swappable right chopping hand and a left fist for when she wants to battle without her weapons.
They’re included as well with two bone blades that are again, different shapes with unique sculpting. That is an underrated nice touch as it would have been easy for the ML team to just make one mold and call it a day. They also have the paint wash to help break up the sculpt.
Finally, she’s got the left arm of the BAF Nemesis.
Worth It? Marrow is the base $25 price. She’s got enough unique elements as well as a BAF piece to make her well worth that price point.
Rating: 10 out of 10
Where to Get It? Marrow wasn’t readily available at most retailers, but I got her from GameStop. You can get her from Entertainment Earth and most of the BAF Nemesis wave from Amazon.
