Action Figure Reviews

MOTU Masterverse New Eternia Mosquitor review (2025)

Mosquitor is one of the more insidious looking members of The Evil Horde. While he wasn’t one of the original members, he certainly looked menacing enough to hang with Hordak’s crew though he was a very late addition to the 80s Masters of the Universe line. With this New Eternia figure, he now gets a shot at real figure glory.

Let’s see if this blood drainer is another awesome addition to the Evil Horde or merely sucks.

Packaging: The Masterverse packaging has little competition on the mainstream front save for fellow Mattel brand, the WWE line. Once again, we get cool storytelling elements from both the image and text. Mosquitor appears to have broken out of captivity, possibly due to Imp’s help since the Horde’s little troublemaker is shown in the corner.

Mosquitor’s side portrait art just shows the standard close up shot while the full image has him in more of an action stance.

The bio explains that Hordak sent Mosquitor to New Eternia to drain it of the Power of Grayskull effectively making him a small scale planet-killer.

Likeness: Mosquitor is an insectoid so he’s a cyborg with the biggest enhancement being his large, metal head with a mosquito-like nose. This oversized noggin looks especially creepy when viewed straight forward as his bulging eyes. encased in clear plastic, appear to have zoomed in on his next victim. His head has a ton of paneling detail and a few bumps to show that his head retains some of Mosquitor’s original form.

With so much attention paid to his head, the rest of his body isn’t as complex. He’s got a chest plate styled similar to the Evil Horde bat. Mosquitor wears spiked shoulder pads with sharp, jagged gauntlets and clawed hands.

Mosquitor has an armored loincloth and basic pants with heavily armored boots. To lean further into the mosquito theme, he’s got translucent pink wings on his back.

Scale: New Eternia Mosquitor is basically the same height as the average figure though his head makes him a little taller.

MORE:

Paint: The Masterverse line doesn’t have elaborate paint jobs, which makes it easy for them to have consistently clean paint applications. Mosquitor’s eyes get a glossy paint app to give them a wet appearance.

The purple has a bit of sheen to it to provide a welcome bit of contrast from the black, red and silver. As usual, there’s no problems with the paint job.

Articulation: Mosquitor features 30 points of articulation. The Masterverse line has a very fluid flow of movement with a sensible articulation scheme, which allows him to attack as a flier or up close and personal convincingly.

His head does provide some obvious limitations in terms of up/down and left/right as you would expect.

Mosquitor has:

  • neck
  • ball-jointed shoulders
  • bicep
  • elbow (double-jointed)
  • wrist
  • wrist hinge
  • torso
  • waist
  • hip
  • thigh
  • knee
  • ankle

Accessories: Mosquitor has a good number of accessories. First up, is his blaster with purple ridges. This is a really nice-looking blaster featuring some intricate detailing. The purple accents make for a solid contrast against the silver.

You’ve got three options for the plug-in tip. There is the jagged blade, which is more like a knife. Another is the hose attachment, which presumably could be used to drain Mosquitor’s victims. Finally, there is the streamlined sword-blade.

All of these attachments can be plugged into Mosquitor’s nose piece. That versatility is one of the coolest aspects of the New Eternia line. You can mix and match parts to how you choose to display the figures.

Finally, he’s got a swappable chest plate. This one is the less retail friendly as it has blood filling into the plate to show Mosquitor while he’s in mid-drain. That’s a very fun inclusion.

Worth it?  I got Mosquitor for $17 thanks to a very good sale over at RetroRobo Toys.  This is a line where the $23 price point seems fair.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Mosquitor is a really fun figure with some fun gimmicks paying homage to his original figure that makes for a great addition to the New Eternia line especially at this price point.

Where to Get It? The New Eternia figures have been pretty hard to find in stores besides Fisto, Flying Fists He-Man, Keldor and Tri-Klops. You can get him from Entertainment Earth and Amazon.
