Transformers Studio Series 86 Scavenger review (2025)
Scavenger is another essential members of the Decepticons as one of the Constructicons, who not only whip up the warfare instruments for Megatron, but also form Devastator.
So far, I’ve enjoyed slowly building up the original Decepticon combiner with Scrapper and Mixmaster so I’ve got high hopes for Scavenger.
Let’s see if he’s a welcome addition to the Decepticons ranks or if I need to get the fork to toss him out.
Packaging: Scavenger gets the slightly tweaked updated Studio Series packaging. It doesn’t have the Studio Series 86 branding on the front any longer, but largely is set up to mirror the other Constructicons.
The front features both Scavenger modes and a decent sized window to show off the figure. One side features the carryover artwork from the front while the other side has the large image of Devastator.
On the back, we get the breakdown of his transformation and the same bio as picture from the other Constructions. That’s interesting since Scavenger gets a prominent moment in The Movie as he shoots and kills Prowl.
Likeness: Scavenger has a fairly wide body thanks to his sizable shoulders and thick tread legs.
He’s also got a fun head sculpt with the goggles style setup for his eyes and a blocky mask type mouthpiece. His body mirrors his alt mode with the waist up section being the top portion and the lower half being the base with the treads.
Scavenger has a center plate section that’s for the fork to swivel and pick up objects. That serves as a connection point for the green and purple sections of his body. His excavator shovel piece plugs into his back, which creates some kibble but doesn’t look terrible.
Scale: Although a Deluxe offering, Scavenger lines up fairly well with the rest of the Constructicons. He’s not the shortest or tallest of the six Deceptions. That means he’s around the same height as the Insecticons and will be looking up at the Seekers.
Alt Mode: Scavenger transforms into an excavator. The detail is pretty solid and scales well with Scrapper and Mixmaster.

Transformation: Scavenger turns into his alt mode in 15 steps. That’s certainly not as intricate as some Transformers and his transformation largely makes sense.
There’s a design issue with the cockpit hinge that isn’t as easy to work around and line up properly without some effort.
Paint: Scavenger has the basic Constructions color scheme of bright yellow green and deep purple.
The silver plating adds some variation to the aesthetic past the black helmet and red eyes.
Articulation: Scavenger has the usual articulation rollout for his bot mode. He’s ready to blast away at the Autobots to help the Decepticons have numerical superiority in most fights.
He doesn’t have waist articulation, but he is able to pivot thanks to his ankle articulation.

For an added bonus, the excavator shovel has three articulation points so he could be posed loading Energon or whatever onto other Deceptions.
Accessories: Scavenger has his cartoon blaster that is off model as the magazine is slanted to the left side compared to being straight down like it appeared in the movie.
It can fit into either hand as well as the ports in his alt mode.
Worth It? Scavenger was $25, but it might be harder to find him at that price. For the regular price, he’s a very good addition to the line. Over $30 and he’s pushing it.
