Image Comics reviews 3/18/26 – GI Joe 20, Battle Beast 7
Geiger 22
Geiger continues to be one of the bright shining lights in comics. With this issue, writer Geoff Johs showed readers another side to the Glowing Man as he and The Northerner encountered the St. Louis Strays.
The Strays are already familiar with a glowing person as they previously met Ashley Arden, who helped them save themselves from sex traffickers. That makes them leery of another glowing being who isn’t their mentor. Ultimately, it falls on Geiger’s pet wolf, Barney, to ease the tension and show them that they’re on the same page.
Geiger has typically been brusque with adults with a low tolerance for strangers. His weakness is kids, which recalls his time as a father. Johns does exquisite work showing that compassionate side of Geiger while The Northerner sees another aspect of his ally’s personality. While he’s under the impression they need to head to Detroit to learn the means of stopping The Unknown War, he misses a warning not to go as it’s a trap. When Geiger springs it, the trap takes him down a path he might not want to leave.
Artist Gary Frank delivers his usual excellent character work, which he shows in great detail in drawing the children. Frank is able to make children look youthful without having that visual of them just being smaller adults. With this lighter moment, Frank gets to show a rarity for present day Geiger — he’s actually laughing. Colorist Brad Anderson gives the art a vibrant boost with rich color choices. Letterer Rob Leigh keeps the dialogue clean and easy to read giving the sound effects the proper gravitas.
Geiger is an outstanding title that never feels like the pace is too slow. The creative team has crafted a compelling adventure that still has so many intriguing twists and turns to go. This is my monthly pitch as usual if you’re not reading Geiger you’re missing out on a truly special original title that keeps getting better.
