Image Comics reviews 3/18/26 – GI Joe 20, Battle Beast 7
Invincible Universe: Battle Beast 7
We haven’t had a new issue of Battle Beast since October, but it took no time for writer Robert Kirkman, artist Ryan Ottley, colorist Annalisa Leoni and letterer Rus Wooton to recapture the spark of one of 2025’s best titles.
The battle with Juggernaut left Battle Beast badly wounded. Fortunately for him, Juggernaut needed time to heal from the fight as well. The witch, Wagulla, healed his body while Prince Salaka continued regenerating. And the computer remains as snarky as ever hoping for Battle Beast’s demise, but Kirkman realized it was time for one of the series’ biggest scene stealers to get a name — Zoolah. That’s as good as any.
As Juggernaut deals with a brief uprising, Salaka tries to convince Battle Beast to use his fighting prowess to take Juggernaut down once and for all. Battle Beast remains as confident as ever and doesn’t give her much of a chance to defeat him on her own. Little does he know that her brother, Colossus, is en route to get payback on Battle Beast. And there’s the little matter of the disappearing Viltrumite, Conquest. Battle Beast might be in for a tougher challenge that he anticipated.

Kirkman keeps the dialogue fun and lively. The character banter has been an unexpected treat with the series so far. Ottley’s artwork is so intense even in an issue without a ton of action. His expressive characters help sell the moments and the broken mentality of Salaka’s people caught under Juggernaut’s heel.
Leoni’s color work is sensational as there is so much detail Ottley packs into each panel. Leoni gives the pages a vivid enhancement while Wooton keeps the text engaging.
Battle Beast wastes little time asserting its claim as one of the top 2026 titles to read. Fans of hardcore action and brilliant characterization should thrill to the insane spectacle as it’s back in the must-read monthly rotation.
